It looks like there's a bit of an issue. It's obvious we need to keep both Lee and Nate, but DW wants to bring in TWO MAX guys. The thing is I don't know if he can do that AND keep both Lee and Nate. Granted this is a GOOD problem to have but at the same time, I don't really want to lose our homegrown guys b/c the GM is zoned in on his plan. What do you think he's gonna do?

i think at least 1 of them will be traded at next year's trade deadline unless some blockbuster deal for a star player that Donnie covets presents itself on draft night.

I think you sign both guys. When the summer of 2010 comes around, you can sign a MAX FA. If Donnie wants another one, he can always use Lee or Nate along with some of other tradable pieces as part of a sign/trade to get another FA.

You can't sign even one max free agent if you re-sign both. Jeffries and Curry aren't getting traded.

Oh well. I'm not really too worried about it. Donnie knows what he's doing.

Both will stay most likely.

Lee is Troy Murphy without the 3 pointer. I don't see why we can't deal him to get rid of Curry.

Troy Murphy and Lee are both good players. Lee is more efficient scoring the basketball and is more of an inside player.

I think the Knicks best way of getting rid of Curry is trying to figure out a way to buyout his option.

The Knicks should keep them both, and need to get creative about adding other winning player. They should still have room for one of the big ones even if they re-sign Nate and Lee.

The name of the game is FLEXIBILITY and by having both of these guys we are going to have some flexibility. It's not all about signing FAs it's about putting yourself in position to do that AND make trades. Donnie already has the Knicks in that position.

Some teams which are farther from contention (like Toronto) may make a move at the deadline on their guy- the Knicks, b/c of their expiring contracts and players they haven't traded, may be in a better position to pre-emptively strike on a player like that.

Yup, and if money keeps getting tighter for franchises, the Knicks with their bucks and their 4 or 5 expirings are in even better shape.

i would love for both to stay. this year proved that they are very good players. however, i can't see us keeping them unless walsh pulls a rabbit out of his hat. he has before so he needs a huge rabbit now. or maybe a huge hat. however, we still need the money in 2010 to sign two big time free agents. that is the key.

nate is (or has already) become the hometown favorite - the fans at the garden love him and pay to go see him. if for nothing else other than marketing, imho - knicks need to keep him - if he was 6'7", he would be the best player in the league.....the guy is also becoming 'lights out' at end of games.

Would like to see both stay, unless their contract demands are too great.

Players drafted by your team who you get to see develop in front of your eyes are like your children, IMHO. I know the game is a business, but we have watched Lee and Nate evolve as players before our own eyes, and it would be nice if they could stay with the Knicks. The fact that they have both emerged as "stars" in their own way makes it easier to take this position.

I saw potential in Collins and Balkman when they played for the Knicks, but neither of them improved significantly during their time with the Knicks, so it was easy to see them go, but Nate and Lee (edit) have both made improvements in their game (Lee), and decision making (Nate) that make them potential building blocks for a Knicks renaissance.

How many PFs are as consistent as Lee. A little more strength and the continued development of his jumper, and this guy is one of the better PFs in the league.

And what player in the league is like Nate at this point? What player brings more energy and scoring potential off the bench? His biggest problems have been related to consistency and mental mistakes, and both of these have seemingly been solved. Hell, his "worst" game of the last 7 or so games he has played saw him score 18 points, dish out 8 assists, and have 2 turnovers.

I don't want to break the bank for either of them, but there is no doubt in my mind that these 2 players can play significant roles in the long term plans of the team.

both stay here. it'd be nice if donnie could get a little creative with their contracts and have the next two years be low and then 4 years at a higher scale.
