would you trade the 2009 pick (unprotected) if you can dump eddy's contract with it? (this is providing the knicks purchase another #1 since they have to take a player in the 1st round this year)

No. Unless of course they knew with good standing that they were definitely going to be able to get two marquee max FA's. But that would be tampering.

not now i wouldn't... we are finally in reach of the cap space to sign at least 1 max FA in 2010... now we need to play Curry next year to see if he can gain some kind of trade value by next year's deadline... if he can't, then we can look into other trade options for him, but we shouldn't give up our lottery pick this year to dump him before we at least see if he can play next season... now that Zach & Jamal's contracts are off the books the Knicks are no longer under as much pressure to dump contracts as they were before.

I think you try to rehabilitate Curry, maybe for next season, then showcase and trade him.

i think trading Curry now with the 2009 pick (or any for that matter) is like trying to trade Zbo with the 2008 and moving down slots. Didn't make sense then, doesn't make sense now.

it is funny though to think that if we did it we would then have given up THREE lottery picks for baby shaq

At this point, no. I'll gamble on next year. If he's still the same fat loser, just trade an unprotected future pick with him to some team.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

i think it's a different situation... we have cap space now... we didn't have it before... we can afford to wait & see if Curry can play before trying to dump him w/our lottery pick... plus trying to trade a $10 million dollar contract is a lot different than trying to dump a $31 million dollar one.

And, why do you trade a player when his value is at an all time low? Wait til he plays next year, his value can't go down at all.

I agree in general, but it is a risk - this is Eddy Curry we're talking about. He's shown that his value can always go down further.

Agreed 100%. Eddy is a good kid. He's not a great basketball player but he can be a very usefull one. He's a bigman that can score at great clips. He's also young. If the Knicks can get him playing even like he was last year (year before Zach would be a dream) the Knicks will not only be able to move him but probably get a usefull player back. At the very worst a good addition to the bench with a friendly contract like we did with Fugazy.

You can't trade picks in consecutive years, I believe Utah or Phoenix has our 2010 pick so the point is moot

I don't think we can make a decision right now to include the pick anywhere because it has a contingency behind it. Let's hold off on anything to do with picks unless some serious talent ws offered back. I think we need to improve the team first--move Curry second. Let fat Curry take the next 8 months to lose weight. I would have to think that money could motivate him as he seems to be awful with it--prime time to go broke after making 60-70MM before the age of 27. He could probably swing another 30-50mm if he really trained hard and kept his cards right--remember Big game James got 38mm for one playoff series. Curry at 270 and in shape able to play--we could trade him straight up. We pay a lot of money to trainers--let them do their work with him--go hire him a personal nutritionist

If Curry would have been ready to play this year, and we didnt screw up our pick ---- we would be sitting so pretty right now. We probably would have traded Curry right now, and we would have a young stud to go with our emerging young core. We'd have that much more flexibility

NOTHING. I mean, damn near nothing has gone right this whole decade.

How could you possibly trade the pick before knowing if you got lucky and moved up to the top-3. If we did trade the pick, it would have to be draft day after the draft lottery is determined.

I think you would have to consider trading it the way the Knicks draft. I keep trying to figure out how they came out of the 08 draft without a franchise player and I still have not come up with an answer.

Just think if Curry actually would have the nerve to come to camp in even worse shape than he did last October. I have a feeling it would happen too with all of his off the court issues. He needs to stop working out in Chicago and stay in NY for the Summer or maybe work with Nate. Someone on the Knicks needs to monitor Eddie Curry day by day, and the Knicks need it desperately. They should threaten to void his contract too, if he comes out of shape. They probably can.
