How many games will the hobbled old band of overpaid role-players known as the Knicks win out of their first ten? Hey, it's something to do until tomorrow night, right?!

I'm calling 1 to 2 wins - before seeing any regular season games played.

Orlando - loss
San An - loss
Orlando - loss
Bucks - win/loss - they are healthy and will outrun NY
Sac - loss
Bucks - win/loss
Cleveland - loss/win
Jersey - loss
Indy - loss
Boston - loss/win

Case, Martin - I like your confidence in this team. I am going to predict 2-4 games are W's...and thats with some luck. However, I remember last year they beat Sac because they must not have been taken seriously. This year Sac knows they need to get home court for the playoffs so I dont see a repeat. That is a rough starting schedule for this team...if H20 is healthy I would say maybe 5 W's but I wouldnt put any money on it.

Orlando - loss
San An - loss
Orlando - win/loss - Orlando isnt consistent enough to write off NY in game 2
Bucks - win/loss - not enough talent on that team to gurantee a W
Sac - loss
Bucks - win/loss
Cleveland - loss/win - Lebron who?
Jersey - loss
Indy - loss
Boston - loss/win - without Twan this team wil struggle

Wed 29 Orlando 45%
Sat 1 at San Antonio 5%
Mon 3 at Orlando 30%
Wed 5 Milwaukee 60%
Fri 7 Sacramento 30%
Sat 8 at Milwaukee 40%
Mon 10 at Cleveland 40%
Fri 14 at New Jersey 5%
Sat 15 Indiana 40%
Mon 17 Boston 55%

Adds up to 3.5 wins. Being that they have a good chance of sucking a lot, I wouldn't count on the extra 1/2 ... so 3 wins in first 10. It is discouraging, but at least we still have one more day where we can hope.

Man, the knicks are in for hard times this year... they might, just might be one of the worst teams in the league... with all the injuries, and no young bench of athletic, guys - we are going to be in the bottom 5 teams all year unless our guys get healthy.

News reports have Chaney saying that Houston won't be 100% all year. That Dyess is not coming back for a bit (end of November, probably earliest). Mutombo really is done. Van Horn is hurting now, and can't carry a team by himself. Eisley is junk. Ward still has knees that are done for (bone on bone - the guy should have retired 3 years ago since being diagnosed with no cartilage left in his knee). Lampe is hurt. Slavko is young, but still slated as the Knicks as a bust (not my wording...). Harrington is injured and trying to be dealt. Knight was just cut. We have no back-up SG. Anderson can't hit a jumper. Guys, let's just pack it in.

KNICKS WIN 4-5 GAMES OUT OF 1ST TEN .Mutumbo will make our defense better and bring back some passion to the knicks overall.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Caseloads, I am with you on this one. A hard time is an understatement. All the players the Knicks really need are hurt, and the ones who should be able to fill in can't.

Winning 4 out of the first 10 will be an achievement. IMO we'll win about 3 or 4 for every 10 games we play this season (I said several times that we will have a 30-35 win season anyway). It is safe to say that Allan won't have a career year this time. Dyess not returning early on is a problem too. Even KVH now has an excuse with his latest injury.

A whole lot would have to happen in order for things to get better in '03-'04 for our Knicks.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

There's only one way a team this injured and crummy can come out of the first ten 50-50, and that's by playing defense-only, rebound-heavy, get-to-the-free-throw-line-at-all-costs basketball. No jumpers, no 3's, no running game. Keep the other team below 80 pts a game, don't worry about making baskets except at close range. Keep hitting the other team, even if your guys foul out. Do not let anyone get in the lane. The only way to win here is to win UGLY.

Personally, I don't think they have the stones between them. One or two guys will play tough, but it takes a lot more than that, especially when outmatched by so many opponents. McGrady, if healthy, will have a field day unless they double- and triple-team him.

2-8, I say. Given this is Layden's last stand this season, if they are really bad by All-Star break, expect Layden to do everything short of selling off his mother to make a deal, unless he's such a cream puff he just backs down and lets his job disappear.

Should read "No long jumpers". Obviously you have to shoot the ball.

D&R:

That's a frightening prospect I hadn't considered: a lame duck Layden handing off one or two more ill-conceived midseason trades as a parting bag of crap to whoever inherits the mess. I'm hoping even our shrewd management won't let that happen.

Fact is, there's not much we could trade that would hurt us, aside from picks and (I hope) this year's rookie crop. Everyone else is either overpaid or not that good or both. Of course, there always are worse, even more overpaid players out there, and we seem to have a nose for 'em.

I for one thought we were going to trade Ward, Othella and Travis Knight for "big nasty" and chucky atkins...

I hope this really is LayDown's last chance to gouge out the hearts of the true Knicks fans. We have almost the highest payroll in the NBA and we look like this...

Read Mitch Lawrence's Daily News column today about Dolan. It could be worse than even I had feared. It is entirely possible that Dolan will keep Layden and Chaney and Mills even if the Knicks cannot make the playoffs in the woeful Eastern Conference.

I'm going to start a thread on it, because I want Dolan run out of this town, and I'm not saying that as a figure of speech.

DefandReb, I am with ya 100% on running Dolan outta here. Hopefully LayDown, Mills, Chaney and Queef (KVH) go with him.

Lawd, please.... please get these fools outta here.

You guys are hysterical!

Laydog ain't going anywhere this year, or next. Chaney does ok with this flawed team. The team never gave up last year and played hard down the stretch. H20 will be ok this year, not greatest season, but ok. We win 38 games.

The team is multi year rebuilding because even the most casual fan can't handle too much losing. Give it time.

Odom couldn't make it past the first quarter. It will take years for his sprain to heal.

Ned,

The whole Eastern conference sucks. NJ and Detroit are so-so, Indy maybe has some good games, but the whole conference stinks. And we cannot even make the playoffs most likely? Unacceptable. Miss the playoffs one year, well, it's a transitional season. Twice? Still putting the pieces in place. Thrice? Uh-uh, no way. I'm happy about adding some youth, but we didn't add athleticism. We are stuck in a rut, and are not climbing out. And this is the highest-paid team in the NBA. Disgusting. Did you read what the Vikings owner did last week after Minny lost its first game after going 6-0. He said they "humiliated" the franchise. Harsh. For going 6-1. Though he kind of apologized for it, that's the kind of owner I would rather have, a hard-ass. 38 wins? YOU'RE ALL FIRED, GET THE HELL OUTTA MY SIGHT YOU MAGGOTS!!! That's what I want to see. A psycho who expects nothing less than victory.

You say 38 and I say 35- what's so hysterical about that?

This madness won't continue for as long as ya think. It's gonna stop sooner than later. Dolan and LayDown are already getting it from the press. The Knicks going 30-35 wins will make something crack, guaranteed. Dolan will have to make a move to protect himself- the first domino falls. The process will start- it's just a matter of when...
