Hypothetical: If you could turn Curry,Crawford,Zach into 2010 expirings - but it took..... Lee, Nate, Chandler to do it. Would you? I like Lee, Nate, Chandler, but these guys aren't saving us and at best they are 3 nice bench players to round out a rotation. So, if a couple of teams handed you a nice rebuild platter of 2010 expirings for Zach, Eddy, Jamal --- do you cash in Lee,Nate,Chandler to grease the wheels? Just a hypothetical!

so basically ur saying would we wanna completely dump this current roster & start all over w/Gallo & a buncha expiring contracts? i'd be fine w/that... pretty much guarantees us a top 3 pick this year in the draft & we get either Jennings, Rubio or Derozan & enough cap space to sign 2 bigname FA's in 2010... where do i sign?

No. There's no point in being under the cap in 2010 if the FA we sign that year is forced to play on a barren, talentless team. With that as an alternative, I think it would be better to just fall under the cap the following season and keep the kids.

Not sure pack, the scenario here is two FA in 2010 and a top 3 draft. Gallo will also be a top 10 player by then (or a handicapped young man). Some players will have to come back from the 6 being traded as well of course. It would be an interesting new situation. Would love to keep Chandler though

Gallinari will be a top ten player? Do you mean to tell me he will be back in Europe?

In no particular order:
LeBron
Paul
Howard
Bosh
KG
Nash
Wade
Duncan
Kobe
Gallinari

Yup, that makes plenty of sense.

take a look at the list of available FA's in 2010:

http://www.realgm.com/src_freeagents/2010/

u telling me if u had the cap space to sign up 2 of these guys along w/a MLE free agent & a top 3 pick in this year's draft, that team wouldn't be competitive?

for argument's sake, if u dump all those contracts & finish w/a top 3 pick in the lottery this year, this is what u could possibly end up with:

FA#1 - Lebron, Kobe, Wade, Caron Butler, Tony Parker, or Richard Jefferson
FA#2 - Yao Ming, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudamire, Dirk Nowitzki, Pau Gasol, Andrei Kirilenko or Kevin Durant
Lottery pick - Jennings, Rubio, Mullens, Thabeet, Griffin or Derozan
MLE free agent (Shane Battier, Josh Howard, John Salmons, JR Smith or DeShawn Stevenson)
Danilo Gallinari

i'll take my chances w/that roster over one w/Chandler, Nate, Zach, D Lee, Curry & Jamal.

EDIT: i posted the wrong year of FA's... my bad... here's the FA's that will be available for the 2010 season:

http://www.realgm.com/src_freeagents/2009/

here's the best names out of the list:

Lebron (opt out)
Wade (opt out)
Bosh (opt out)
Amare (opt out)
Dirk (opt out)
Brandon Roy (RFA)
T-Mac
Steve Nash
Joe Johnson
Manu Ginobili
Jermaine O'Neal
Carlos Boozer
Ray Allen
Josh Howard (team option)
TJ Ford (opt out)
Rudy Gay (RFA)
Mike Miller
Tyson Chandler (opt out)
Camby (MLE?)
Mehmet Okur (MLE?)
Kyle Lowry (MLE?)
Raja Bell (MLE?)
Udonis Haslem (MLE?)
Ty Thomas (MLE?)

so let's say if u have the cap space to lure both Lebron & Amare Stoudamire to NY that year... or Joe Johnson & Bosh... or Wade & Boozer... then throw in a 3rd FA like Camby or Raja Bell w/the MLE, & u put those guys around a top 3 pick in this year's draft... that team can easily contend in the Eastern Conference...

by then the Celtics will have run their course & will be looking to rebuild themselves, the Raptors will be looking at losing Chris Bosh & Philly won't have the cap space to improve much w/both Brand & Iggy on the books longterm... the only team that will be in a good position to improve that year in the Atlantic is New Jersey because they already made the moves to be in a position to make roster moves that year w/the trade of RJ this past offseason... the Knicks will be in prime position to make noise in the Atlantic Division that year if they position themselves to have cap flexibility now.

IMO it's imperative that the Knicks be in that same position or else they're gonna be left in the dust by other teams while they stock up on talent for another season.

now this is a farfetched plan i realize since Dolan will never accept a complete overhaul of the roster like the one that's being proposed in this thread... i would be happy to at least be able to target 1 of those bignames along w/a MLE FA that year if we get lucky this year & draft 1 of the better prospects... IMO that can easily be accomplished by dumping Zach's contract along w/D Lee right now, & u might be able to get a pick out of the deal while u'r at it... maybe not a great pick but somewhere late in the 1st round would be fine by me in that case... there will be good talent available late in the 1st round, just like there is just about every year... combine that pick w/the one we already own & we will have some options available to us this offseason & beyond... if we stand pat & do nothing all we'll have until 2011 is the pick we currently own & we have to hope & pray we land a sleeper stud w/that pick cuz we'll only have 1 shot at getting him after most of the top guys are taken off the board.

Can't really fall under the cap and keep the kids - Lee and Nate want big extensions - Chandler will too. I too would like a home grown team but you can't have that when half of it is overpaid crap on long term deals.

The theme is simple - if someone told you all six players mentioned would be off the team come July 2010 would you be happy with that? Are Nate, Chandler, Lee really THAT good that you would keep Curry, Crawford, Zach on the team through July 2011 while signing those kids to long term deals for big money?

I'd really have to say no.

My personal response to my own poll is I'd have to think about it but probably yes.
