Did the nets give up on him because of personality differences with Thorn .

Would they have drafted him if he wan't any good, I thought the nets really checked out their players ( Quality Franchise).

I think he will get a chance to shine and it will be up to Williams to prove his value. For Don Nelson to want Marcus he must have faith in the kid and feel his problems can be turned around. The Knicks have problems but the Nets also had their big problems in their club house.

To me Marcus is a great talent who has let outside interferences get in the way of his success. I fully advocated that the Knicks should have selected him with that pick instead of a hustle player just paced on potential upside and our situation at the time of the draft. I however do think that much of Marcus' success is based on his own head. He has the talent to be a real good player in this league. Unfortunately to be a good player, with a 2 cent head you have to be a superior talent. I think the laptop story was very telling. Here is a guy a few months away from being a multi-millionaire and what is doing? Risking that by stealing laptops. Some people self-sabotage, and he is one of them.

Will he succeed in GS? It's a tough question. I love my Uconn boys but I'm skeptical about him. I just don't see him being able to hold onto success. I think he will be ready to prove people wrong but will be unable to sustain it. I'm rooting for him, but picture a short run of success followed by some weight gain and a back up role. We shall see.
I just hope that people will like me

Frank expects his guys to be in great shape. Williams never was. Williams has some character and motivation issues that he may overcome but I think the Nets don't want to wait. I think the Nets felt that they had seen enough and wanted to go in a different direction. Thorn/Kiki did great with this deal.

Williams had two years to show himself. Nets took a risk on a talented kid but got Kidds heir apparent in getting Harris.

Nets got a 1st rounder which means they got full value for Williams.

Good deal for both. Williams will get another chance. In this league, that is what you need to succeed. I doubt nets could get a 1st round pick for him if he was glued to the bench or playing limited minutes under harris.

Williams is a talent who has underachieved with the Nets. I don't buy anything else other then that he just didn't play to his ability.

He had Kidd as his mentor & he had Vince & Jefferson as his wings. With his talent and that position he should be the Nets starting PG right now. If Thorn felt Williams was any good then he wouldn't have traded for Harris, He would have used Kidd to land a PF/C and plugged Williams in at starting PG.

You don't trade Kidd for another up and coming PG if you feel you already have one. Williams still has talent though. So there for he has a chance to shake this rocky start to his career if he were to get his ish together.

So tell me was Chauncey Billiups a knucklehead while in Boston under Pitino, or was he just immature or Did Pitino use him wrong.

my take on williams is that it is very difficult for rookie or young player to get significant burn in jersey since they are trying to win right now. especially at a position of strength (kidd/vince). he didn't wow them with his play and he was banged up so he didn't get alot of chances to play regularly. if he was on another team (say memphis), he would've played alot more and we would've seen if he was any good or not.

he'll probably get more of a chance in golden state under nellie b/c nellie is a crackhead and will play anybody.

i don't think he'll do anything to really break out in GS as long as Monta Ellis is there... Stephen Jackson & Corey Maggette will both be seeing minutes at the SG position next season cuz they have to give both Al Harrington & Anthony Randolph some minutes at the 3... also, they have Marco Bellinelli as a backup G so that means Ellis will be seeing minutes at the point next season as well.

my prediction is he's playing on a different team in another couple years still trying to find a team where he can be "the guy", almost the same career path as Sebastian Telfair... just my gut feeling.

I've wanted Marcus since prior to draft-day a couple years ago. I think he didn't perform up to standards with the Nets, which is why he was traded. I do believe he has a great opportunity to prove himself to be the kind of player he was in college and if he doesn't grasp it then he's an idiot. Marcus has alot of raw talent, good shooting ability, good passing ability and he can run different paces of an offense. This is his chance to be a good player, wish it was with us and not with someone else.

Totally agree with this. I just dont think he has an extended opportunity to prove if he is a legit bust or not.

The fact that Willimas was going to play behind Kidd & Vince was considerd a huge positive and rubbed in Knicks fans faces by those who were upset with Isiah Thomas for not taking him when he was drafted. Now it is seen as a negative?

Williams was bragged about as a lottery talent. He should have easily averaged 8pts 5assist in 22-24mins his first 2 yrs. He should been the first man off the bench and commanded 22-24mins "by his superb play" at the guard spot.

All this doesn't matter, his fans around here are just going to make excuses for him.

steve jax and monta are playmakers themselves and if brandan wright has developed enough physically to lock down the 4 spot, life should be easy for Marcus Williams playing Nellie-ball
the stop underrating David Lee movement 1. FIRE MIKE 2. HIRE MULLIN 3. PAY AVERY 4. FREE NATE!!!
