Well COS...the question is was the behavior of an organization detrimental to the league, business, reputation...the NBA is a joint venture between the owners and David Stern's job is to determine what is in the best interests of the NBA, its product, its reputation for its fans, sponsors, players and yes, OWNERS.
David Stern has the ability to UNILATERALLY impose sanctions upon teams and players and owners and coaches IF he feels that the NBA product is being compromised. If Stern feels that this is the case, then I would think there would be some type of action.
What many people do not see is that the problems that have occurred over the past three-four years created a very negative perception of the team. If Stern acts, it will be because of the actions OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, with this as the "icing on the cake."
Remember, Steinbrenner was BANNED from baseball by Faye Vincent (I think that was the MLB Commish at the time)...plus, we are seeing current Commisioner's of all pro sports act on negativity (see Vick, the Bengals, Artest being suspended for 7 games, NBA dress code)...there is an overwhelming concern for how professional sports are perceived by the public, esp in pro-basketball.
You can think Isiah was a great player, or he is doing a good job here, etc. The bottom line is that THIS IS VERY BAD, VERY, VERY BAD. No one should be concerned with how much $ is going to be paid out...losing sponsor money and ticket sales as well as a PR nightmare is really the issue here. Isiah has STAINED his legacy and he will never get a job in the NBA again.
And quite frankly, if you REALLY ARE A FAN OF THIS TEAM, THE KNICKS, not Isiah or Marbury...the KNICKS, est. 1946, you should want what is BEST for this team and BEST for its fans that spend time and money on it.
