Lee. He's better at everything except low-post scoring, which another teammate does anyway.

Bonn - do you prefer Lee's outside shot over Randolph's?

"Randolph’s ability to shoot from 18 feet means he can stretch defenses and keep opposing power forwards from double-teaming Curry. Having both players may also allow the Knicks to always have at least one player on the court capable of scoring in the low post."

Randolph is a slightly better shooter than Lee both his (Zach's) % is still too low from the outside for it to be a serious threat. Teams will double Eddy every time and practically beg Zach to take jump shots, knowing that he hits only 41% of them.

I'm jus' axin.

which rebounder do you prefer?

I'm cool with citing statistical analysis... let's talk matchups, from the emotional or reputation perspective of a team in the locker room discussing strategy in their pre-game meetings....

...which Knicks player presents more of a matchup challenge to their power forward:

Lee or Randolph?

Bonn, you are fearless. This is not an easy topic.

Please do not interpret my response as doubting your professionalism.

Lee. He isn't as skilled as Randolph, but he is a better rebounder, at least he gives an effort on D, his game compliments Curry more, and you don't have to worry about his "hoops family."

Oh, and he doesn't have a terrible contract, which is my primary objection to the Randolph move.

Depends on my the players around him.

If I had a guy like Marcus Camby as my center who doesn't need plays run for him to get his pts. Is an excellent shotblocker/rebounder, and could anchor a defense I would go with Randolph. You would have a nice *balance* of offense and defense with strong rebounding.

With Eddie Curry being our center David Lee seems like a better fit. He doesn't need plays run for him in order to be effective. He has a developing 15fter. He also is an Excellent outlet passer to start a fast break or get the ball up the court early in the shotclock. Lee has a lot of intangibles. He needs to keep hitting the weights though. But the key is he can accept not having plays run for him and still be very effective. Can Randolph accept that??

Eddie Curry & Randolph were compared in the other poll because they are both #1 low post options and will both be looking to be the go to guy in NY next season. So I asked the question who would you rather have.

Of course I see you try to make it into a race issue which is why you kind of took offense to me comparing Randolph & Curry though they have the same game. And made your own of Lee or Randolph.

Other factors to consider:

Zach has had micro-fracture knee surgery, Lee has not.
Zach has had some trouble with the law, Lee has not.

I don't want EITHER taking jump shots unless they're wide open. Lee is definitely the better rebounder, passer, energy player, and defender (even though he's not good on defense). The only advantage Zach has is that score more points (while taking a ton of shots).

Without bringing in the fact that I don't like Randolph. I rather have him start and Lee back him up. Either way the Knicks will suck on defense at the 4 spot.

They're both bad on d. Lee has a small edge on the boards. Zach is a much better scorer. You have to go with Zach.

I prefer Zach since he's so much more consistent with Isiah's overall vision and building style.

Which player (Lee, Randolf) better completes this sequence:

Marbury, Tim Thomas, Crawford, Mo Taylor, Curry, Francis

Randolph is the obvious answer; he's the perfect fit for Isiah's team.

Zack is probably the better player.

However, due to all of Zack's personality issues, I would take Lee over Zack any day. Bringing Zack to NY could be considered letting the bull loose in the china shop. I really hope he matures, because if he does, he could be a great asset.

From business perspective Zack is dead case
Lee will bring to himself and his team a load of money in endorsements
He is good character and good looking guy who is working hard.
And yes... he is white so you can reach a huge market. There are a lot of stars in NBA for African American market place but not to many American whites
Any owner/GM who will give up on Lee is dumb businessmen.

NBA is mostly not a game - its business.
Zack is waste of money and Lee is bringing money in. No brainer

arkrud - i thought the invitation was to discuss relative merits on the basketball court

The size of Zach's (terrible) contract is irrelevant. Rich, are the Knicks a better team with Malik Rose at power forward?

So is the type of popularity contest that lee has the obvious advantage as many fans have an affinity for his image. Forget the business marketing angles and the "character" issues that come bundled with Artest as well...

which is the better basketball player?

The ansver to this question can make sense when Lee will be in the lague for at least 4-5 year. It is dubm to compare 2-nd year player with NBA veteran.
Same as comarison between Dunken and Fry, MJ and LeBron, etc.
Too early man...

arkrud - I thought it was less dubm to compare Zach to the player he shares the power forwrad position with, David Lee, than Eddy Curry

Tim Dunken is the man. I like Labram Jones as well

Eddy is C/PF and Zach in PF/C
Both are big, have only 1-2" of difference.
Both do same things in the post.
Eddy better on the block, Zack can face the basket better and better shooter and rebounder
Both are terrible defenders, terrible shootblockers, terrible passers.
Very similar players.
Lee and Zack - not even close... Almoust no similarities
