NO...... Kobe hates to be embarrassed and hates losing.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Chicago has better pieces, but NY has better draw... it's a close call... Kobe leading the Knicks to a title is going to embedden him as an absolute icon in NY forever... that's something he could accomplish that his idol never has... what could he possibly do in Chicago to trump what Michael's done? Kobe to NY is a real possibility IMO.

He is staying in LA,it's just fun to stir up drama to bring more attention to Kobe.Nothing is happening.
It's funny how this whole world is based on one dummy controlling another, and the leader dummy was chosen by a whole bunch of dummies.

my thoughts exactly. remember, kobe has a no traqde clause meaning he can pick whatever team he wants to go. the most sensible trade that would help la would be a minny swap with garnett but kobe won't go to minny. chicago would be intrigueing for kobe but chicago would give too many peices for him ( deng, gordon and maybe wallace). kobe would keep them competitive but it would be pretty much the same situation he had in chi town. however with ny, the knicks do not have better pieces but they do have pieces that la could use. the best part of the deal is that we most likely won't have to give up curry ( they are still high on bynum) or marbury ( jax can't stand him). so in essence, on paper anyway, we are the more attractive team for kobe as we are closer to a championship with the core and we are part of the best media market in the world. with kobe's ego, what is a better prize: to follow mj's footsteps and try to win another championship in chi-town or pulling ny, the mecca of basketball, from the depths of mediocrity and helping them win their first championship in over 30 years?

Chicago and New York are young teams. They won't gut the future to trade for a player who's great but won't be enough.

It would be an awful decision for him to make. I don't think him coming here would make us a championship team or leave us with enough assets to ever become one, but it would at least make the team go from being unbearable to more exciting.

let's also not forget that 15% trade kicker if Kobe gets traded... that's nothing to sneeze at... i don't see Chicago being willing to give up their young core AND pay the trade kicker, & yet still risk Kobe leaving for NY after a year's time if he decides to opt out... if Kobe comes to NY, on the other hand, everyone knows money will not be an issue, & he'll get whatever the hell he wants in terms of a contract extension, because the Knicks are so desperate to land a true franchise player.

Bryant also has the maximum-allowed 15 percent trade bonus on remaining salary (one option year excluded) in his contract, meaning he is understood to receive an extra $9.6 million from his new team if he is traded this summer, $6.6 million if next summer. That financial boost further makes a trade Bryant's best course of action if he wants to leave the Lakers. A lesser option for him would be exercising the right to opt out of his contract in 2009, which would leave the Lakers without compensation.

If Kobe does get traded to the Knicks, for the garbage that they have to offer, the ensuing LA riot will be bigger than anything they've ever seen.

If it comes down to either Chicago or New York then we're toast.

And to think we could be toast because WE helped Chicago build that team by giving them the pieces and the flexibility that they use to acquire Kobe. That would be a huge dagger.

i didn't realize we'd helped them acquire Ben Gordon, Luol Deng & Andres Nocioni... if they had Eddy Curry on their roster, they'd have been more of an attractive team to go to than they are now with only Ben Wallace & Kirk Hinrich from Kobe's standpoint IMO.

You guys make it seem like the knicks were completely terrible last year. They didn't make the playoffs and that's it. They probably could have if the were healthier.

Yeah kobe to ny is a pipe dream but you are not being fair just totally trashing the team like that.

The deal the original poster put up is a hell of a deal. It guts the knicks but, the knicks have the highest payroll and don't care about spending. Getting kobe would allow the knicks to spend the vet minimum, the mid-level, and the low-level exemptions to plug in holes. Isiah could still trade Francis and try to plug some spots up.

Why is this laughable? Its not like the lakers aren't getting a monster deal for kobe. They don't have the big name all-star talent, but they do have tons of youth and more than serviceable players. The lakers could still win. They were only a marginal team with kobe.

Kobe on the knicks with marbs and curry is damn dangerous alone. If they trade Francis to clevland they could have Hughes. They could sign anyone. The draw would be their. The money is unlimited.

Stern needs to send a letter to kobe, his agent, isiah, buss, etc. This needs to get done. The NBA needs kobe in ny. It can happen and it should.

Kobe and the knicks taking on lebron and the cavs forever. Pierce and the celtics especially if they get a dude like Marion. It needs to happen.

I think a deal of Lee, Crawford, Balkman, Rose, Nate, and our 1st round pick would be pretty competitive. Lee is better than Tyrus Thomas IMO. Crawford is not as consistent but has as much talent as Ben Gordon. Balkman, if he develops a jumpshot, is a potential starting caliber defensive SF that any team would love to have. Plus, you throw in a draft pick and I think our deal becomes credible. Chicago can put together a better package but Paxson has already shown he is not going to give up all his talent for a star player. I agree with others who have said that a Marbury, curry, and Kobe team would get to the EC finals at least, so I would have to think that Kobe might have serious interest in coming to New York rather than Chicago. If we keep Frye, Morris, and Collins, we would also have some developing young players.
Trust the Process

it's not like the Lakers have many options available to them... Kobe's given 3 teams according to reports that he'd accept a trade to... Phoenix, NY & Chicago... there's no way in hell the Lakers are going to trade Kobe to a division rival, so scratch that right off the list... & like i said before, i don't see Chicago being willing to give up what it would take to get Kobe to Chicago AND pay the trade kicker while taking a risk that Kobe would opt out & leave them after a year... NY, on the other hand, will give Kobe whatever he wants in terms of a contract extension, & the draw of coming to NY & the chance at becoming an icon here is not something that can be easily dismissed... & i don't think the Knicks' young players are garbage, contrary to the general consensus around here these days... it's funny how these guys gain value in some posters' eyes during the season, yet whenever we discuss trade scenarios they suddenly & mysteriously become garbage... it's a weird phenomenon.

The only players with value are Lee and Frye(i'm leaving out balkman because i havent seen him in any of the rumors). Crawford is not a player a team is overjoyed to get, he is very flawed, not to mention he has a bad contract. And out of Lee and Frye, neither have star potential, but rather they can be good role players. The bulls could offer Gordon+salary filler and it would be a better deal.
