prior to game one, when they announced dallas' starting lineups, i was laughing b/c nellie has alrady won the battle. avery changed his starting lineup...a 67 win team changed it for an 8th seed. and now golden state is being the aggressor and has completely dictated the tempo of this series. avery better wake up soon b/c nellie is taking a dump on his head. on a side note, avery did take over a 57 win team. so can we bring up a discussion if whether or not avery is overrated?

I don't know about Avery but Dirk looks very much so. I like Dirk but he sure isn't carrying himself like a MVP. 4 freaking points in the 2nd half of an important Game 3 is not acceptable.

I don't think Avery is over his head, I think Nellie knows how to guard Dirk and knows how to score on his old team. That Warriors team is like the perfect storm of swingmen headcases that are hard as hell to guard.

Dallas may have won 67 games, but they were what, 0-3 against GS this season?
All about matchups.
Avery still did an incredible job this season.

i think avery is a good coach. a very good coach b/c it's not easy to take a 57 win team, change some key personnel and still continue to win at a very high level.

but if the team is supposed to contend for a title, i don't think you can simply say "it's about matchups." you're trying to prove that you're the best team in the entire league. you have to be able to overcome all matchups.

not only do dirk, terry, josh, devin and co. have to man up...but so does avery johnson who clearly is having major problems getting his players to match the intensity level of the warriors and is having a tough time coming up with adjustments to slow them down.

FIckle basketball fans, let me add my two cents.

Last year Avery won COY and got Dallas further than Nellie ever took them in the playoffs. Avery made Dallas play defense

Now all of a sudden -- he is overrated, this, and that.

Stop it, please

Thank you^^^^. Su I thought you were my boy than you turn around and making these anti Dallas threads

Last night was completely ridiculous. Dallas needs to stop with the bs and Dirk needs to completely take over. I don't care if he shoots 3-27 next game but he better damn well put up a ton of shots. Right now Dirk is the only person that can save this Dallas team. One on one Dallas cannot guard GS. The X factor sort of speak is Dirk becase GS does not have a franchie esque player. Dirk dominates draws double teams that is the only way the floor will open up for everyone else.

I haven't seen the whole series, but from what I saw last night Dallas has to match the defensive intensity of the Warriors. It's fine if Dallas wants to enforce their will by slowing down the pace, but they have to do it on the defensive end first.

GS was SWARMING. There were some possessions where GS was rotating faster than the ball could be thrown, it was as if every guy involved in the possession was double teamed. And GS seemed faster to the rebounds and loose balls, thus igniting so many breaks.

Dallas needs to control their paint and get more second chance possessions.

The announcers kept saying the whole night it looked like 5 on 6. Can you imagine if the Knicks had a draw like the Warriors in the first round?

That's what kills me when fans wanted so desperately for us to get in as an 8th seed. Some fans are goofing on Oralndo and currently are goofing on the Mavericks yet we wouldn't have stood any greater chance than either of those 2 teams. So what's so great about making it as an 8th seed or getting bounced in the first round? My bad the latter did happen to us in 2003-2004. And for those optimists, no we couldn't do what Golden State is doing right now.

It's also assumed that part of what contributed to GS's turnaround this year was when Nellie told the press he felt like he could get the team to the playoffs but he failed.

If a coach says that here it's considered talking to his players through the press, and Dolan would be negotiating Nellie's buyout right now.

The series is far from over. Dallas will readjust and win game 4. Period.

Although, I will admit, GS is playing better than I expected... and Dallas needs to kick it into gear.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

They are both good coaches. And I don't think Avery is overrated. Remember the reason Don Nelson step down is because the players were not listening to him and were listening more to the assistant coach Avery Johnson.

That being said I think people are forgetting the main factor that Don use to coach this very same Dallas team for years and he knows their weaknesses and strenghts. Dallas on the other hand does not have a clue on how to stop the Warriors because this Warrior team you could say is fairly new. Davis and JRich have been out for most of the season. So there is no real scouting report on these guys.

People can point to Dallas not stepping up but the truth is Basketball is a game of matchups. And sometimes you just can beat certain teams or players because you do not matchup well against them.

Baron Davis playing healthy can make many a team look good.

What Baron say to the team the coach backs him up and vice versa.

Boy NewYorkers can just hope to have top 5 picks in drafts for a few yrs in a row. To draft guys with a high skill level and hunger to play for us in the future. W hen will we have a chance at a Brandon Roy, Lamarcus Aldridge,Kevin Durant type ?
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

ny will never get the chance to have draft choices like gsw and chicago has had.

could you imagine if gsw kept vince carter ?....b-diddy, j-rich and vince carter in nellie's system (wow!)

its nice to see gs with all that talent have the zards make the playoffs 2 years prior to them

and with all that talent they still had to get nellie to make it in the money rounds.

Avery is one of the best coaches in the league. some times you've got coaches who are great at x's and o's, but their players don't like them, some times it's the other way around. avery has both qualities. honestly i think they just didn't expect GS to play them so physical. they're really manning up and putting bodies on every Mav
^precocious neophyte.
