Curry stinks

Emeka over 2 Currys. I am starting to like Curry, but I'm just that high on Emeka.

Emeka's offense is really bad (13 PPG on 41%) but his defense is outstanding. Curry has the reverse qualities, but has much more upside if he can stay in shape. I voted for Emeka because I value defense more than offense, but I kind of wish I could have two votes! It was a really close call to me. If Curry comes anywhere close to reaching his potential, he'll be much better than Emeka. Emeka will never be able to be the force on offense that Curry already is and can become. Even if Curry gets in top shape, I don't think he'll see what's happening and react to it quickly enough to play the kind of help defense and grab as many rebounds as Emeka does.

Curry lately has been getting close to dominant. I think he is starting to understand how much of a problem he is for his apponents.....Emeka just doesn't do that and I don't think he ever will......that's what I get from what Bonn1997 wrote.

He's averaging 13 a game in 34 mpg on 41% shooting. Curry is averaging 15 in 27 mpg a game on 55% shooting. You can't seriously equate the two. Curry's avering more points in fewer minutes and shooting far better. For every 100 shots they take, Curry makes FOURTEEN more. Okafor is ten times the player Curry is on defense but there's nothing wrong with admitting that Curry is well ahead of Okafor on offense.

They don't run many plays for Emeka in Charlotte. Many of his points are from offensive rebounds.

^Sort of a catch 22, Nalod. Maybe he doesn't get plays run for him because he isn't that good on offense....

That point made, I would take Emeka (this is of course injuries aside, as a player) I just prefer big defensive presence big men.

Emeka's averaging 12.1 shots a game. That's probably far more than a big shooting 41% should get. Curry's in contrast averaging 9.5 shots a game. If anything, your comment about not running many plays applies to Curry but not Emeka.

That's what I initially said but I'm definitely having second thoughts because I think Curry has so much more upside than Emeka. The voting is very close in the poll but I haven't heard comments from any Curry voters. I'm curious what they think.

It's close don't get me wrong, but i just prefer emeka's game to Curry's, i agree that curry has alot more potential, but put potential in one hand and poo in the other and see which one fills up first...

Can we move this to the Crawford Hinrich thread because its that insane to compare losers who don't play defense or have a fundamental bone in their body to players every team needs.....

I would take Hinrich and Okafur over these clowns every time, Eddy is always out of shape, always gets hurt, doesn't play defense, and doesn't have a passion for the game......Defense wins in this league the guy blocks shots, rebounds and is a strong defender you don't need points out of every position, he is a poor mans ben wallace

Exactly, I'm so sick of hearing the word potential. What is potential anyway, an underachiever who hasn't realized it yet? The NBA wastelands are filled with those types of players. It's crazy that that is all that we have to rely on. Why can't we get players who DO good things instead of players who MIGHT do good things.

when I read post like this, it is hard to get anything out of it but hate. You say curry always gets hurt but before this season, he never had a problem with nagging injuries. Okafor seems to be hurt more, espcially with his bad back. You say he doesn't play defense but I think he does, just not that good at it yet, but isn't it fair to say then that Okafor does not play offense? Defense wins championships true, but that is if you defend as a team, because if it was based on individual defensive merit, then answer why the bobcats are so bad, considering Okafors superior defense? I mean isn't their record worse than the knicks?

Put Curry on the Bobcats and you think they're better than they are with Okafor? I personally think they're worse without his defensive presence.

Put Okafor on the Knicks and do you think that they're a better team? I do. The Knicks biggest problem, other than Isiah keeping his hands to himself, is on defense and having Okafor backing up the guards would help our perimeter defense as well as in the post. No more layup drills.

Overall, you're looking at 3-5 points more that Curry might get for you on offense. Do you think having Okafor's defense is worth more than that? I do.

Per 48 the difference in scoring is 26.1 to 18.9 favoring Curry and that doesn't take into account that Okafor actually takes more shots per 48 than Curry does. But you are right that Okafor is A LOT better than Curry on defense. The difference there is probably bigger than the difference in their offense, although this latter difference is still very big too. The reason I'm reluctant to pick Okafor is that I think he's close to his ceiling; I don't think he'll be more than a very good, non-all-star putting up between 13 and 10 and 16 and 11. (The scoring might go down if he's on a team with more scorers and doesn't get his FG% to a respectable level.) Curry, in contrast, is nowhere near his potential. I know "potential" is a word that's overused. To me, if a player has a lot of skills but over an extended period of time has shown no improvement, then potential is not a useful term to use. But if he's showing continuous improvement, as Curry has primarily in rebounding and drawing free throws (and in conditioning during the season), then it's reasonable to take into account the player's upside based on skill set, work ethic, athletic abilities, etc. I'm not 100% convinced Curry falls into this latter category but I am pleased that his conditioning has improved, his FTAs have improved, and his rebounding has improved this year. It's a small sample, but this month his #s have improved in almost every category.

I wont restate the obvious. But Emeka's game (rebounding and put backs) relies heavily on athleticism. That athleticism will wane. Emeka is a game changer on defense and on the glass.

Curry is a game changer on offense. I think Curry will be more dominant on offense than Emeka will be on defense. They are the same age. I would like Emeka more now, but they both have developing to do and I think Curry will go further.
