I wonder what people's preferences are. Do we let all our contracts expire, or do we trade them/one for another star. There's no cap relief after this season but here's how we stand after 06-07: Steph: 20,109,375 Q: 8,105,500 JC: 7,920,000 Curry: 8,000,000 ? Malik: 7,101,250 JJ: 5,800,000 Frye: 2,487,420 Nate: 1,268,160 DLee: 990,600 Ariza: 3,000,000 ? Butler: 2,000,000 ? Total: 66,782,305 That's not that far over the cap. We could get rid of one or two players to contenders who need somebody like Rose or JJ for cap relief and maybe a pick. Then, the year after, we could offer mega bucks to Wade or Lebron.

ok, guess i'll start it off.
I voted let them expire. It's responsible, it's prudent, and it would be best for us in the long run. The only players, I would make an exception for this are: KG, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce.

That's still far enough over the cap that it'll be impossible to make a mega bucks offer to anybody. Now if we didn't have Marbury and we scaled down the payroll from Isiah Day 1, then maybe we would. Or maybe if we didn't trade for Mo T, Rose and sign Big Stiff...

I'd rather have Isiah drafting than trading. Expire.

Definitely true, but I really don't think we can blame Isiah. I think that's more of a Dolan thing. You know, rebuild if you have to, but also try to make the playoffs, and definitely fill the seats and suites and, oh yeah, create enough buzz that we remain relevant. Isiah has done terrific at drafting. Just imagine what he could do if he didn't feel compelled to bring in these overpaid stiffs. It's not like the Knicks would ever have a tough time recruiting a big-time free agent.

Why are the two mutually exclusive? If anything, it's the exact opposite. Isiah can trade them and take back slightly more salary along with draft picks.

We don't need any more castaways on this team. We have enough. Generally, that's what the expiring contracts have netted us. We definitely do need some HIGH draft picks, and I get the feeling it would take someone like Marbury to get those picks. I'm talking about pics 1-5 type picks. Either that, or perhaps trade him for a guy like Rip Hamilton or Ray Allen and see what Jamal and Nate can do, in the long run, at PG.

PS- I'm not saying any of this will happen, but it's scenarios the Knicks could and should consider.
