It's become increASINLY OBVIOUS, atleAST TO ME, THat we're lACKING a true impACT BIG Man. we hAVE PLENTY OF PF'S, and A CENTER IN JEROME James thAT Can ATLEast block some shots, but whAT WE'RE MISSING IS THat one GUY thAT Can reALLY Man the pAINT FOR US. An impACT pf. gUYS LIKE SHEED, BRand, k-mART, ETC. sWEETNEY'S a nice rebounder AND POST SCORER, BUT HE'S UNathletic AND STILL UNPROVEN, PLUS HE Lacks defensive ABILITY. FRYE IS ONLY a rookie AND WE'VE alreADY SEEN THat he's more of A PERIMETER BIG Man, Rather thAN ONE THat cAN Bang in the Paint with the best of them. But both of them ARE STILL YOUNG, and could end up SURPRISing US... So my question to ALL OF YOU IS - becAUSE WE are missing THat lAST PIECE TO THE PUZZLE, WHEN WILL ISIah use TIMMY and/or penny TO Land it???? (AND YES, I'M Having keyboARD PROBLEMS)

I voted for just before the trade deadline. I personally think thats when either a struggling team or a player that has fallen out of favor with his team will become available and bam the Knicks are there with 25 million dollars in expiring contracts to give to them.

If I had to guess, I'd say Penny this summer and TT during the season. Penny's value is not gonna go up and he offers the team nothing. They'll trade him over the offseason to a team looking to save money. TT may play well and increase his trade value during the year.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Not necessarily dollar by dollar, especially with the new CBA. And we could take a small expiring contract, a bad contract (that always happens ) and a pick or two. Expiring contract are good to have but not necessarily have to be used. If a team that expects to be in the playoffs stumbles down and wants to rebuild, trading their best players for the exp. contracts would make sense. But Isiah could easily just let them expire, though thats not likely with him...

I said closer to the trade deadline. It's all going to depend on who becomes available. I might not complain if we just let it expire though. After all, we have to do something about the cap situation eventually, right?

Is this an attempt at Clairvoyance?

Teams aren't even able to do any trades until Thursday...
How could anyone other than an actual GM actually know something like that. If the Pistons can get Rashweed we should at least get a servicable player out of most deals. I think we'll need to wait at least a couple of weeks after the trading period begins...before we could even form an opinion about the value of expiring contracts under the new CBA.

no, rICH IS probABLY RIGHT. YOU Can tell certAIN THINGS JUST BY LOOKING at who's AVAilABLE ON WHat teAMS and whAT WE Have to offer.

right now, no teAM IS GONNA trADE a legit big mAN UNLESS a trADE IS FORCED. WHY? B/C THERE'S NO POINT IN KEEPING TIMMY OR PENNY ON THE BOOKS FOR an entire seASON WHEN THEY COULD Easily keep thAT "STar" PLayer until closer to the deADLINE.

PERSONally, the soonest we could mAKE USE OF TT OR pENNY WOULD BE atleAST around a month after the seASON STarts. why? b/c, FOR EXample, the clippers, who hAVE BRand, would wANT TO Gage where they're AT BEFORE THEY Make such A DRastic move.

reALISTICally, timmy's stock will rise weeks before the deADLINE, and teAMS will hAVE TO Make lAST-MINUTE DECISIONS ON WHO TO KEEP and who to deAL. and thAT all depends on their chANCES OF Making the plAYOFFS...

The Pistons got Rasheed because Ainge wanted to screw the Knicks.

But yeah, I'm just guessing like everyone else.

Let me make the case that Isiah will let the contracts expire.

In his contract year, TT may actually play well, especially as the season draws to a close. If he starts playing well before the trade deadline, he may be retained to help the Knicks actually make the playoffs. So he may actually stay the whole year.

Penny i'm less sure about. I think he will either be cut, or possibly traded... but what do we get back? What did the Sixers get back for Glenn Robinson.. anything? Not even worth dealing IMO. Just let his salary expire.

Next summer, if TT has played well enough, prehaps Isiah can execute a asign-and--trade if some team actually want to offer TT more than the mid-level exception. Maybe the Lakers would take him.

How many expiring contracts has Isiah let expire rather than trade (or extend after failing to trade in Kurt's case)? Answer: Zero. It couldn't be more obvious how Isiah plans to use expiring contracts. Regarding the salary, it's obvious Isiah cares about how much money Dolan has to spend about as little as I care about it.

TT will resign with the knicks (ala Walker) next year for $6 to $8 mill per.

I think Isiah is keeping his options open. Like he proved with Larry, he is willing to be patient and use his assets wisely. Had we done something different, signing Brown would've cost us picks. Now, we can sign him just with money. The same thing goes with the expiring contracts. I doub't he finds any takers for these players this offseason. Once the deadline approaches, he will see which players are avaliable because, as we know, there always seem to be many good players avaliable. The deal would have to be either for a young player and picks or for a player that can make us contenders. If nothing great is avaliable, I can see Isiah staying put, and let those players either expire or resign them and trade them. Because he has stated that we are rebuilding, I don't necessarily see Isiah using the contracts...
