Three things you might have missed from Celtics-Knicks

A comedy of errors, a controversial play, and defense.

You know that fish from SpongeBob who screams “My eyes!” at the sight of King Neptune’s bald head? That’s what the end of this Boston Celtics regular season is looking like.

Two straight games, two straight blowout losses. It’s painfully clear that the Celtics are phoning it in until the playoffs. On the one hand, who can blame them? They’ve accomplished everything they’ve needed to this season. On the other, it makes for a putrid product on the court.

Here are three things you might have missed from the Celtics’ 118-109 loss to the New York Knicks on Thursday night.

1. A comedy of errors

This sequence personified the entire game.

First, Jaylen Brown smokes a wide-open dunk.

Then, a great block by Kristaps Porzingis slips through the hands of Derrick White, right into the grasp of Josh Hart, who has just gotten rejected.

And to top it all off, Hart trips on Porzingis’ foot. Foul on KP.

What a mess.

2. DiVincenzo-DWhite

Let’s throw this one to the masses.

After Donte DiVincenzo missed this dunk in the third quarter, he grabbed White’s leg. Watch the very end of the video. It gets cut off, but you can see it a little bit.

From the top media section at TD Garden, the thought was that DiVincenzo helped White regain his balance. However, Richard White saw it differently.

Was it a trip? Was it a helpful act? Or was it an awkward situation that was unintentional? Let us know.

3. Defense!!!

Look what happens when the Celtics actually put forth some effort on the defensive end.

Not seen in the clip: An entire 24-second possession of hard-nosed, intense defense. The result? A wild miss.

And again, more defense!

The Celtics bring Porzingis to the level rather than having him drop, Jrue Holiday shows help on one side, and the Knicks offense gets swallowed up in the paint.

On the ensuing Celtics possession, Jayson Tatum gets an easy bucket in the paint.

When the Celtics are on, they are on. The problem on Thursday was that they weren’t on very often.
