Miles McBride, Knicks agree to 3-year, $13 million extension

The New York Knicks and third-year guard Miles McBride have agreed to a 3-year contract extension worth $13 million, as disclosed by agents Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman of Priority Sports on Saturday. This extension, which is fully guaranteed, will kick off next season.

While McBride has always been a deep-bench player for the Knicks since entering the league ahead of the 2022 season as a second-round draft pick, he has been a steady member of Tom Thibodeau’s rotation even on lower-volume minutes.

McBride played 9.3 MPG over 40 games as a rookie, then moved up the added to appear in 64 games logging 11.9 MPG last season. This year, however, the clogged Knicks backcourt has limited the reserve man to fewer than 5 MPG through 19 games played including Saturday’s matchup at Indiana.

On that game, and following the trade with the Toronto Raptors announced earlier that depleted the Knicks lineup, McBride logged a season-high 18 minutes in the loss to the Pacers, contributing five points and an assist, shooting 2-for-3 from the field. Over his two-plus seasons with the Knicks, the artist known as Deuce has averaged 2.8 points across 10 minutes per game.

Although the Knicks added another guard in former Raptor Malachi Flynn, it’s fair to assume that Thibs would at least favor McBride going forward and increase his role in the rotation as one of the main relievers for Jalen Brunson at the point, even more considering Deuce’s defensive chops.

In a related move announced earlier on Saturday following the trade for OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, and Flynn, the Knicks waived forward DaQuan Jeffries to create a roster spot as they only sent two players (RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley the other way, needing to make room for the accommodation of the three incoming Raptors).
