The NFL kicks off in Week 17 on “Thursday Night Football” with a matchup between the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns. While the Jets (6-9) have been eliminated from the playoffs, the Browns are currently in the No. 5 seed in the AFC and will be focused on staying there.
These two teams have faced off 29 times in their teams' histories, with each team winning 14 games during the regular season, and Cleveland winning the only postseason matchup back in 1987.
In a lot of ways, these two football teams are constructed in similar ways. Both have invested heavily in defense and it’s paid off, as the Browns sport the No. 1 DVOA defense while the Jets check in at No. 3. On offense, the Jets are the worst in the NFL, ranking No. 32 in DVOA offense, while the Browns aren’t much better, finding themselves at No. 27.
The difference between these two teams is that Cleveland has found a competent replacement quarterback in Joe Flacco, while the Jets quarterback carousel continues to look for answers and will turn back to Trevor Siemian this week.
The folks over at DraftKings Sportsbook are favoring the Browns by over a touchdown in this matchup and the Pride of Detroit staff is sticking with the favorites on the moneyline but are split when it comes to giving/getting points.
Here is a look at who each of our staff is picking for Thursday night’s game:
