It seems like Cedi Osman will be in Cleveland a little bit longer.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cleveland Cavaliers are fully guaranteeing Cedi Osman’s $6.7 million deal for next season. Today was the deadline for the Cavs to decide what they wanted to do with Osman. He will be a free agent after next season.

Osman, 28, has spent all six of his NBA seasons with the Cavs. Last year, he appeared in 77 games, averaging 8.7 points and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 37.2% from three and 45.1% from the field.

He’s a decent NBA wing who can shoot it well and get hot, despite some defensive limitations. At least for depth purposes, guaranteeing the last year of his deal to bring him back makes sense. Cleveland needs upgrades on the wings, but also needs some depth. Osman is that.

It’s also still possible the Cavs could use him as salary filler in a trade. It wouldn’t be salary relief trade like it would have been if Cleveland had dealt him on draft night, but it could still be useful to match salary.
