Ben Gordon's team has all but wrapped up a playoff spot. His hometown team will have to wait at least another year.A native of nearby Mount Vernon, Gordon scored 22 points off the bench as the Chicago Bulls posted a 102-94 victory over the New York Knicks, whose losing streak reached a season-high nine games.
Kirk Hinrich added 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting for the Bulls (43-32), who connected on 53 percent (36-of-68) en route to their 11th win in 12 games.
Chicago (43-34), which has not made the playoffs since 1998, is 6 1/2 games ahead of ninth-place New Jersey in the Eastern Conference with seven games left. The Bulls are two games in front of Washington and Indiana for fourth, which carries home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
New York (29-46) - which is on its longest losing streak since a franchise-worst 12-game skid in 1985 - was eliminated from playoff contention earlier Friday when the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Cleveland Cavaliers.
New York jumped out to a 21-8 lead barely five minutes into the game but Chicago pulled within 31-25 after the quarter and took a 55-54 edge at the half.
The game was tied at 82-82 before guard Jannero Pargo gave Chicago the lead for good with a 3-pointer with 7:07 left. The Bulls' edge was 93-90 before Gordon nailed a runner in the paint over Kurt Thomas with 1:21 remaining and sank two free throws for a seven-point cushion with 1:01 to play.
Stephon Marbury scored 23 of his 29 points in the first half for New York.
