Knicks’ Mitchell Robinson ruled out for Game 4 vs. 76ers with injury

PHILADELPHIA — Three days later, Mitchell Robinson was unable to go from a walking boot to an immediate reboot.

After limping out of Wells Fargo Center following Thursday’s Game 3 loss in a walking boot, Robinson attempted to play Sunday but was ruled out for Game 4 of the Knicks’ playoff series against the 76ers.

The 7-foot center did not play in the second half due to a sprain of his surgically repaired left ankle.

Earlier in Game 3, Sixers center Joel Embiid was called for a flagrant foul for grabbing Robinson’s lower right leg from the floor while the Knicks’ center was going up for a dunk.

Afterward, Donte DiVincenzo labeled the foul on Embiid as a ‘dirty” play.

Robinson, who missed 50 regular-season games after undergoing ankle surgery in December, usually is the first player on the court for pregame warm-ups about two hours before gametime, but he didn’t emerge from the locker room until there was barely an hour before tipoff.

Tom Thibodeau said Robinson would be a game-time decision, and the Knicks announced around 12:30 p.m. that he was out.

The former starter has averaged 3.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots in 20.0 minutes per game in the series.

All four of his blocks came in Game 1, in which he played 30 minutes before playing 30 combined in the past two games.

Precious Achiuwa assumed Robinson’s second-half minutes in Game 3 after not appearing in the first two games of the series.

The Knicks also have third-year center Jericho Sims available, if needed.
