Knicks vs. Sixers: Round 1 Prediction Thread

Man, I was a lot more worried about the Sixers before they looked like garbage against the Heat in the Play-In Game. Had Jimmy Butler not gotten hurt, the Knicks would totally be playing the Heat in this series.

So I guess I have go with a gentlemen’s sweep (which I am defining as the Knicks winning in five, and not the more specific “Knicks win the first three, lose the fourth, then win the series in five”).

My 52-win prediction was pretty darn close for the regular season, so let’s hope that I picked right on this, as well!

How about you all?

Who will win the series?

I hope you’re right, Brian, but i think Embiid will be a lot more healthy than we’re expecting. We’re the Knicks, you know? We’re used to this. Damn, if Randle was on the Sixers he’d probably play the series too. LOL
Knicks in 7 !!! 😛

I just discovered that I’m in Philadelphia for work on the night of game 6….

I’ve never been to an nba game before – this feels like fate – more seasoned fans – how likely am I to get a ticket?!

Guess I’d better say Knicks in 6!

I’m going to go with Knicks in 6. I figure there will be a couple games where we beat ourselves.

Not only you’ll get a ticket, it’ll be a lot cheaper than in NY. 😉
Just curious, you’re based in UK and are traveling in the US, or you’re an expat englishman in america? 🙂

Knicks in 7. This is going to be a tough series and Embiid will be mostly healthy but we will prevail at home in game 7 when Brunson goes nuclear.

Hey Cyber… I live in England but I travel to the US for work once or twice a year. It’s never fallen the right way for me to take in a game though.

See pags isn’t up yet…0 votes for Philly in 4…

Knicks in 7…this is the way…

LOL!

One of these days i’ll ask Pags for his take on the world, because with climate crisis and all, we’re already doomed and i wonder what will he add to it! Maybe an alien invasion? 😀

Oh nice, i have you on the european KBers, so no change needed. 😉 And it’s great that you might catch a game, although i won’t be rooting for it, because the sooner we can wrap the series, the better. 😛

might be over indexing to watching embiid tow his lower body 94 feet at a time against miami, but i’m taking the good guys in 7.

If it’s an alien invasion…I hope they look like the ones in “Mars Attacks”

The 76ers are better than the Knicks without Randle, but the combination of home court and the probability than Embiid will get reinjured somewhere in the series makes the Knicks a small favorite to win the series.

Yeah I’m on the Knicks in 6 train too, but I think a lot of it will hinge on the first two games. We need to grab the momentum right away and not let their role players go off and start feeling good.

I think Embiid will play, Mitch is far from 100% and iHart will get overextended. Sixers in 6.

Hoping to be wrong. Go Knicks.

Just because I picked Knicks in 4 doesn’t mean I think it will be easy.

I think the first two games at MSG are going to massive heavyweight fights that go down to the wire. I just happen to think we’ll win both of them (though I am legit scared the refs will try to steal one for Philly by giving Embiid 20 FTAs).

I don’t think Embiid has the health or stamina to survive two heavyweight fights in three days, so we coast in Philadelphia to the sweep.

I’ve never been to an nba game before – this feels like fate – more seasoned fans – how likely am I to get a ticket?!

Very unlikely since there won’t be a game 6.

But if there is, it’s surprisingly simple to get a ticket to a sold-out game in the States. Stubhub isn’t like what it is in England, and the secondary market in Philadelphia is not overpriced like it is in NY.

Feels weird to do this here but why not (Brian / Mike – if this is totally inappropriate, feel free to delete or put into moderation) –

Yesterday morning on the train into work, I impulse-bought tickets for game 2 (Monday 4/22). Then by some act of God, literally like 2 hours after I hit submit to buy the game 2 tickets, I actually got offered tickets by someone for game 1 and so I am planning on going to game 1 – and in order to decrease cardiac risk, my plan is to just sell the game 2 tickets.

I’ve listed them on stubhub/ticketmaster etc but wanted to check with the Knickerblogger family to see if anyone is interested in them.

Section 104, Row 19, seats 9-10
I paid $880 for them total ($440/ticket) and am not looking to make $ on them, just to recoup cost if possible.

Just as comparison – similar tickets/section (104, 110, 114, 120) are currently going for no cheaper than $515/ticket (including the garbage fees/taxes) on Stubhub, $507/ticket on Tickpick, $510 (incl fees) on SeatGeek.

If anyone is interested feel free to email me at francoliu@yahoo.com. I’m not sure how we would work out payment or whatnot but I’m sure we can figure it out in a satisfactory way.

To me, the series will hinge on two things: the transition game and non-star shooting. We have to dominate in the areas of defensive rebounding and forcing turnovers, and run, run, run! The Sixers’ three most X-factor-ish players are Joel Embiid, Kyle Lowry and Nic Batum. We need to get into transition as much as possible, especially Josh Hart. If we can, I don’t think the Sixers can keep up as the series wears on.

As to non-star shooting, it comes down to DDV-OG-Bojan vs. Harris-Oubre-Hield. I think we have to win that battle or at least break even to win.

I’ll be at the game tonight in great seats, thanks to a very generous friend. Seems like there will be quite the KB contingent!

I’m in the midst of an insanely busy couple of weeks of work and I’m probably going to miss most of this series including the game today.

I’ll take the Knicks in 6. Joel Embiid breaking down with injuries and having an underwhelming playoff series is an NBA tradition at this point.

Pepper, don’t be such a pessimist! I voted Sixers in 5. We’ll probably win game 2.

Cyber, don’t be such a pessimist! I think AI will destroy us long before climate change does.

I swear, you guys are are a real bunch of negative nancies! 😜 I’ll be basking in the positive vibes pre-game, since once we lose this one we’ll never be in such a good position (i.e. tied) in this series again.

LOL

makes the Knicks a small favorite to win the series

Yeah, i agree, i think a small favorite (JB) will destroy the Sixers! 😀

After giving it some thought, I’m going Knicks in five. We win games 1 and 2. Split in Philly, then they lay down in game 5. English_Knick I think you should still pick up a ticket for game 6, just in case. It could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for you. If the series is over, you will get a refund.

Today is exciting! I hope more KBer’s weigh in.

These Knicks don’t have gentlemen’s sweeps, this team wouldn’t know how to chill out for 48min if their life depended on it

espn just invented pencillin. please give me the option of crowd noise on broadcast off.

So much jinxing going on. Sixers are a good team, this is not going to be a cakewalk. I think everyone saw a rough looking game from them against Miami and is overreacting to that.
I’ll say 76ers in 6 sadly, although I would truly not be surprised at all by any outcome in this series. I hope we pull it out and am excited about our chances (possibly even getting to the finals — f the Celtics) if we do. But I don’t think it’s gonna be an easy series

Sounds like Doris Burke makes two slightly different voices!
Who are these guys?

Tbh i wanted to watch Phi vs Mia to see the condition of these two but as they say “when you make plans God is laughing”
My optimism for Knicks in 6 comes COMPLETELY out of Knicks side.
Having watched ALL our Reg Season games I strongly trust our badasses against Anyone.

Knicks in 6. Did all of those accumulated minutes improve conditioning or just pile on wear and tear? At least for one round, our players can go 48, can theirs? Perimeter defense lapses and shotmaking differentials will give Philly 2 wins. If I-Hart’s Achilles holds up – we should be fine.

that was an incredibly sad turnover in that it forced ingles to attempt his max vertical

this is like one of those tiktoks where they pretend to fight and then start dancing

This is a snooze fest of a game… the Magic can’t score, the Cavs kinda can but it’s also not that great.

The Knicks have added referee tendency statistics to their media notes.First time they have offered this info publicly is in their game notes they give to media before Game 1: pic.twitter.com/hf7sv3rWt8— Fred Katz (@FredKatz) April 20, 2024

This is cool, and also may well cost James Dolan a lot of money, which is also cool.

This game isn’t great, but it’s the rare kind of series where I actually like both teams and would like to see them both take it to the next level.

Wagner(21) gives me reckless & provocative vibes.
He’s my pick for Not completing these series

I don’t think the Saturday at 10:00am slot has ever produced a game that was really watchable. Maybe time to cut and run on the traditional 1st day scheduling model.

The skill level in the Suns-Twolves game is pleasing after the eyesore of the first game.

Does Philly have any high end defensive player to throw at Brunson? I don’t think they do at I’m picking Knicks in 6 though I wouldn’t at all be surprised if Philly won. Also:

Man, I was a lot more worried about the Sixers before they looked like garbage against the Heat in the Play-In Game.

This is what several fan bases including ours said last year about Miami. I don’t think looking at a single days point is all that instructive about a team’s chances in the playoffs.

Both Oubre and Batum have given him trouble because of their length, but I’m confident Brunson will solve it.

Either Bradley Beal has the least recognizable face ever, or this is the first time I’ve ever seen him play.

Dunno which offense is worse, Orlando Magic or the Yankees.

What’s up w Judge this year, Al? Unlucky or worrisome? (I haven’t been watching)

Don’t really like either team but I kinda feel bad for Beal never advancing very far and then I see Grayson Allen throwing himself into some defender and getting the foul call and I say no sir Minnie in four please.

Line up to -4.5.

Seems like the money paid attention to who the Sixers are even if the media hasn’t.

I feel excited even though I expect us to lose. The cognitive dissonance is uncomfortable.

Glad that relief is coming soon, either way.
