Woj Bomb: Julius Randle suffered a dislocated shoulder

After another dominating win (kicking the asses of the two NBA Finalists from last year in back-to-back games), the Knicks had a bit of a roadblock with Julius Randle suffering a late game shoulder injury. It looked like a shoulder dislocation at the time, and Woj now confirms it:

New York Knicks F Julius Randle has suffered a dislocated right shoulder, source tells ESPN.

There will an MRI probably tonight, and that will tell whether he tore his labrum, as well. If he did, it’s a season-ender. If he didn’t, then it’ll probably be at least a month.

Fingers crossed!

I figure this is such big news that it needed its own thread.

Best of luck, Julius!

People are going to have a hard time chanting Jaquez sucks with the correct pronunciation I anticipate.

I don’t think it was a dirty play at all but he should have to shave that lettuce as penance.

We shouldn’t get too distracted as to not celebrate just how great of a win this was today. These two wins were amazing. This is the best this team has looked in over a decade, and heck, more like since the days of Ewing. It’s something we shouldn’t lose sight of. Just appreciate how great these wins were.

You’d think, right? But for some reason, that doesn’t seem to be an issue.

Yeah I had just come around to believing this team is better than Melo’s. This has been an amazing month of basketball. I hope we don’t remember this as the peak.

I think we can survive this, specially if Hartenstein is 100% back, slide OG to 4, start Hart, and give more minutes to Grimes and Precious, who both looked decent again today. We’ll obviously miss Randle and now the starting lineup is undersized, so we won’t outrebound opponents as easily, but we should be able to at least tread water until Julius is back if it is 4-6 weeks.

so, read through the whole game thread, was talking during the game…

the one thing that sticks in my mind is this bit of genius:

Give even more minutes to Hart!

perfect prose that is pleasantly petty…and would even work well/be funny in person…

may i ask bruno, how many languages are you familiar with listening to and speaking?

from what i had thought, humor was one of the most challenging aspects in linguistics…

not sure why, just thought I had heard so…

Still think we need a secondary professional scorer in the meantime. Brogdon or Bogdanovic fits the bill.

If it’s four weeks that means he’d be out for about 14-15 games. That’d give him plenty of time to get his game back together before the postseason.

oh, one thought that came to mind during the game – if donte is amiable to it, may be even if he’s not, switch him and deuce…

let donte and OG handle the ball for the second unit…

I mean the positive about this team is the best should be yet to come. The best players are still on the positive side of 30, we should be in store for some good, fun basketball for the next few years. How good it can get is obviously still the tough question.

more minutes for precious and josh at the four…

i think precious has earned the chance to spend more time on the court…

he plays well with others…

it’s cool how things are with incoming roster adds, brunson is the boss – fall in line…

and be careful what you say to the coach…he is maniacal…

thankfully it seems he is also good at building trust and relationships with most folks…at least if he feels as it may profit him to win…coach-wise, fair play that is…

we lost our third best player for a month to month and a half…

poor guy is starting to rack up a scary medical report…seems like he lives pretty healthy so, hopefully he lasts for a long while to come…as a knick…

I hope you are right but it may be more like 2-3 months for an athlete. But I got that info from Siri. I have no insight at all.

Steph Curry had a similar injury last year and missed 11 games. Good thing is the All-Star break is coming up where the Knicks have 8 days off in a row so that helps.

The Celtics losing badly would take the sting out of things.

Paul Reed put up a gaudy line today. I wish we had him or someone like him in reserve.

When Brunson played for the Dallas Mavericks, he dislocated his right shoulder during a game in February 2020, and missed weeks as a result before opting to have surgery to repair a torn labrum on the same arm. “It was pretty painful; I can’t lie,” he said.

D’Angelo got the ball and immediately bricked a 20 foot turnaround fall away jump shot with like 17 seconds left in the posession

“may i ask bruno, how many languages are you familiar with listening to and speaking?”

Speaking, honestly just portuguese, english and I can handle myself in spanish with some effort… I can read and listen to French pretty well, mediocre German and at some point I could read some Norwegian / Swedish but at this point it’s mostly all gone. I’ve been very fortunate to come from a family of people who cared deeply about reading and learning new languages so pretty much every year of my life, from early childhood to adulthood, I was learning extra languages.

The Clippers look scary, if they remain healthy, which is always going to be the caveat, but damn they look good.

Si KP us hurt for the Celtics, Embiid is hurting for the 76ers, Randle is out for a month or more and the Bucks just fired their coach. Cleveland must be licking their lips.

I gotta say I’m worried about Randle- few players use their shoulders more to create space. I’d be really cautious bringing him back if he doesn’t need surgery.

Crushing the Celtics while Harden & Westbrook combine to go 4-20 is wild. Shame the Clippers are all going to get hurt by the playoffs.

Cleveland is missing Garland and Mobley.

Wemby hit Gobert with a shamgod into a gorgeous scoop layup, it’s insane what he can do at his height. If he ever starts making 3s it’s over.

The link above made me depressed. Not sure I see Randle playing anytime soon.

For happier thoughts: since the OG trade (14 games), the Knicks have a 119.3 offensive rating (#8 in the league); a 104.1 defensive rating (#1), and a 15.1 net rating (#1).

The “torn labrum” stuff is annoying, because yes, any time the shoulder dislocated, you tear the labrum, but we don’t know how big of a tear it is. So it’s meaningless to say it. Because the size of the tear is the important thing, and no one knows that at this point. Certainly not by watching him.

Other happy thought is the knock on this team is they can’t beat good teams but we just played last years NBA finalists and beat them by 54 points

They couldn’t beat good teams when they had the pre OG team

Since OG they have beat- Minny, Philly, Denver and Miami

keeping an eye on that Dr ed, we’re now a minus 7 for the year against .500 teams…

we have a bunch of .500ish teams coming up the next few weeks…if we can even the number out and maybe turn it positive by year’s end, that would be pretty great…

Ok this is what we do: Throw a bunch of picks and Fournier at Utah for Marky-Mark Markkaten, play him at PF until Randle gets back, then move his to SF and OG to SG. Problem solved.

Knicks only have to go exactly .500 for rest of the season to match last season’s win total.

We’re now all waiting anxiously to see if it was a torn labrum. But even so, there’s another 3 months to the season. We saw Aaron Rodgers be able to play after tearing his Achiles. That’s the ankle, a weight-bearing joint. The shoulder can be repaired and then, soon after, PT can take place. You have to believe that Randle will do what he can to rejoin the team for the playoffs.

Maybe he can rehab and make it back this year and then have off season surgery to repair it the right way.

God damn it this fucking sucks. Good chance even if Randle is back he might be super rusty or not 100 percent for the playoffs and then if he underperforms the same stupid ass haters are going to pull out their dumb narratives about how he chokes in the playoffs.

Seriously. Fuck Miami. I’m not even saying it was dirty or anything but of course this bullshit would happen agains the god damn heat.

Rest up, Julius. Hope the team can hold down the fort while you’re out. But god damn it this is so fucking unfair.

Most important to me is that Julius fixes his injury properly and does not rush back. There is no need to jeopardize his future years of good play bc of some “tough it out” macho bs or any sentimental feeling of letting the team down.

For that matter, I feel the same about iHart.

My guess is he’ll be back shortly after the all star break. It helps that it’s his right shoulder, and he can stay in cardio shape…

It’s so funny that Lebron is like 40 years old and relatively washed and he can still put up lines like 36-20-12. That would be the best night of 99.9% of NBA players careers.
