Jaylen Brown Ejected From Celtics-Knicks After Chirping Refs on Court, Bench

Celtics star Jaylen Brown found himself in unfamiliar territory Friday night after a pair of arguments with officials led to the first ejection of the eight-year veteran’s career.

Brown’s surprising penalty occurred as the Celtics led the Knicks, 119-107, midway through the fourth quarter in Boston. A reach-in foul called on Brown as he guarded Knicks guard Immanuel Quickly sparked an animated response and a short argument immediately resulting in a technical foul.

As New York shot the technical free throw, Brown continued arguing over the call before he was subbed out the game. However, Brown uttered a few more words about the play from the bench, leading to a questionable second tech and an ejection.

The Celtics crowd showered the court with boos while Brown protested the call as a few of his teammates and coaches held him back before he was escorted to the locker room.

The two technicals were the 23rd and 24th of Brown’s career, and will likely be an intriguing postgame topic once the two-time All-Star takes the podium to speak with the media.

Prior to his ejection, Brown recorded 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting and four assists in 27 minutes.
