Knicks add another ex-Villanova star by signing Ryan Arcidiacono

The Knicks will welcome another Wildcat back into the mix.

On Friday, the team announced the signing of former Villanova guard Ryan Arcidiacono to a contract.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Arcidiacono, 29, spent parts of two seasons with the Knicks in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Last season, playing for both the Trail Blazers and the Knicks, Arcidiacono averaged 1.3 points and 1.2 assists in 8.6 minutes over 20 games, four of which he started.

Before joining the Knicks the first time, the guard was with the Bulls for four seasons.

Since his NBA debut in 2017-18, Arcidiacono has averaged 4.4 points, 2 assists, and 1.9 rebounds over 16.4 minutes in 237 games and 40 starts.

The Langhorne, Pa., native played four seasons for Villanova.

He joined with fellow Knicks Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo to win the NCAA Tournament in 2016, Arcidiacono’s senior year.

After an off-balance 3-pointer from North Carolina’s Marcus Paige tied the score at 74-74 in the national championship game, Arcidiacono brought up the ball for Villanova with 4.7 seconds left and dished to Kris Jenkins beyond the arc for the buzzer-beating winning shot.

It was Villanova’s first NCAA men’s championship win in 31 years.

Arcidiacono was named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player that year.

In 2015, he was awarded First-Team All-Big East and Big East Co-Player of the Year as a junior. In his college career, he averaged 11.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.17 steals.
