Watched most of it, not many passing highlights. I guess what surprises me about the willingness to trade Kolek is that he showed elite passing ability, in spite of playing some of the fewest minutes in the league for a rook, relative to where he was drafted. Was Kolek the worst prospect in the league?

As a rookie to have the most efficient passing game over a two game stretch in NBA history. In spite of being at the bottom of rookie minutes is impressive. Did it twice which showed it wasnt a fluke.

If the FO has some big deal in mind(a good one) and wants to include Kolek because he came back and didnt show enough improvement with shooting and D. That I could understand.

Regardless of his age, rookies who can pass like that arent seen often. And the chance of drafting a player who can pass like that even more remote. So I hope he gets a chance to show what he worked on over the summer.

Dont want to read about fans from other teams laughing how we gave up Kolek for a bag of chips. Wouldnt call this season a legit opportunity for any of the rooks.

Passing highlights at 50 second mark. I'm not saying if Kolek has "it" or not. I like his passing but I'm concerned with the hesitancy he had attacking the rim during his late season stint. I hope Kolek shows out. It would alleviate some roster concerns.but this front office is pushing all it's chips in and anyone who thought they it did a bad job with the young players before is going to be in for a shock moving forward.

Yep, all the rooks will have to show out with a team which has championship aspirations. Other teams, contenders, played their rooks more than we did. So the Knicks can develop players without sacrificing their competitiveness. All we have to do is not play our starters more than any other team in the last 30 plus years!

I could see Thibs falling in love with this kid. Wish he was a little bit taller.

Knick worked this dude out. Don't know much about him except he's 6'9", French and can shoot. Seems like a G-League guy at the moment.
Also adding a scouting report from No Ceilings.

Headsy Ausie center with a porn stage. Can run in transition and decent handle but a below average athlete. He'd be a beast if he developed a jumper.

OKC has 2 first rounders and a 2nd rounder and they don't have enough roster space to house them (they have too many players under contract). Knicks have loved trading with OKC on draft night- Aller and Presti love moving chess pieces around. I wouldn't be surprised if the Knicks bought an extra 2nd rounder or moved up in the 2nd round. I think you wind up getting the same 2nd round exemption if its pick 32 or pick 58 so the Knicks might as well try and move up with whatever means they have to grab a roster player that has a chance to contribute. If there's a guy who slipped out of the first they like, a 4 year college player that can play right away they should get them. I think guys like Kobe Brea and Johnni Broome have an NBA skill that can help on day one (3 pt shooting, rebounding respectively).

If they keep the 50s pick while buying an earlier pick, I think they either go for another guy who slips based on a concern, i.e. McCullar, or a guy they can stash overseas that they can use for optionality. Diawara is interesting as a Batum like prospect.

This sounds right. Expect Knicks to whisper sweet nothings and then tease and taunt us Wednesday and bring the heat Thursday, just like they taught us to do. Unless it's whiskey night and then anything goes

Some scouts have compared this dude to Max Strus. Not the most exciting pick, but he looks like he could land on someone's bench. He's also 24, so he'd fit in with Kolek and McCollough.

What about Kobe Brea? Dominican kid who went to Kentucky? Born in the Bronx? Once lead the NCAA in 3 pt shooting?

The draft history with the 50th pick is pretty sad. No guys really stand out except for Niang.

In recent years with picks in the 50s the Knicks have drafted Jericho Sims, Ariel Hukporti and Kevin McCullar. I wouldn't count these guys out.
I also think we'll wheel and deal to move up if there's a prospect we think that is rotation worthy in the 2nd round.

We didn't do anything in 2023, but otherwise we seem to love wheeling and dealing in the draft.

Yeah, Knicks are better off with the 56-58 picks anyway.

Begley says Jamir Watkins is a name to keep an eye on which totally makes sense as he’s CAA and a wing from the NY area.
