Assuming it is a success and comes out before November- how does Trump sell that as the big success that it is if tens of thousands of people are dying by that point because of his decisions? How do you come out of hundreds of thousands of deaths and say "whoops! looks like we can distribute a vaccine in the next few months- those deaths were all completely preventable, but I couldn't be bothered to wait!"

Talk about willful ignorance We're not asking people to look back to the early 1900s, just a month. Did they think God just chose NY and California because he wanted to punish the modern day Sodom and Gomorrah? I live in Florida and never go out without a mask. Trump was a victim of his own stubbornness and past tactics. He has spent 3 years trying to divide the country on virtually every issue, so when the democrats bought into the need to wear masks and shut things down, Trump went full tilt in the opposite direction. He refused to wear a mask, demanded that things be reopened, and tried to stir revolts in democratic controlled states to energize his base. He is now pot committed to that stance. The problem is the virus is real, and the initial lower than expected death rates were due to the initial precautions taken. Hospitals are now nearing their ICU capacities in Florida. Once we pass that point, you are going to see the death rate go from 1% to about 5%-10%. Once that happens we are going to be in full crisis mood, and Florida could turn into how New York was in April. The thing is people in Florida are so stupid, they still might go to the RNC, even though it is likely to be sparsely attended like his last campaign rally.

What's the mask wearing in public like? Most people do it? 50/50? How about in stores?

New York been kicking butt lately. It has been hot but I have noticed a lot of people still using masks.

Think 2 of the 3 or 4 in phase 3 trials are chinese so all those fools going for the anti-china rhetoric might come to regret it, if they succeed in finding an effective vaccine first. It would be like the icing on the cake for Trumps response- piss off the people who you end up needing a vaccine from in order to deflect attention from your absolute failings.

Reuters are reporting that two experimental coronavirus vaccines, jointly developed by German biotech firm BioNTech and US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer have received ‘fast track’ designation from the Food and Drug Administration.

The candidates, BNT162b1 and BNT162b2, are the most advanced of at least four vaccines being assessed by the companies in ongoing trials in the United States and Germany.

Earlier this month, the companies said BNT162b1 showed potential against the virus and was found to be well tolerated in early-stage human trials. Early data from the German trial of BNT162b1 are expected to be released in July, the companies said.

If the ongoing studies are successful, and the vaccine candidate receives regulatory approval, the companies said they expect to make up to 100 million doses by the end of this year and potentially more than 1.2 billion doses by 2021-end.

The companies said they expect to begin a large trial with up to 30,000 participants as soon as later this month, if they receive regulatory approval.

The fast track status by the FDA is granted to speed up the review of new drugs and vaccines that show the potential to address unmet medical needs.

And this is a new piece of news. Seems like some of the projects are already mass producing the vaccines just in case they get the all clear. I'm starting to feel there might be some light at the end of the tunnel, hope we can hold on.

In placing like Walmart, it is 100% because they require that you wear a mask. Some places though, like your local convenience store, it is probably about 50%-70%, depending on if the store has a sign about masks. But the real problem was when they opened up the bars and clubs. Most people did not wear masks when they went out. That lasted for a month and the numbers started rising again.
