Yikes.

Randle is a career 71.9 % FT shooter. Hopefully this is just an anomaly.

RJ is a little worrisome. His form seems to be OK but I don't like that he veers to the left on his stance. Maybe a little tweak where he squares up would fix his problem. Small adjustments is key.

He's had good games against KP in the past. Maybe this is what he needs to wake up.

What's upsetting is that most of us were counting on DSJr being able to fill the starting point guard spot - to offset having to again search for another starting position after losing KP at the power forward. We have RJ who seems to be a solid SG to work with, but if we have to use this upcoming draft pick on another PG b/c DSJr is a bust - that would be a solid fail even if we draft well and land some decent players with those mid to late 1st round picks. Again, hope his play is b/c he has been injured. If it's a mental thing - we will end up dumping him for a 2nd rounder and the trade really will have not worked out well. Let's hope it's some lingering back stuff that can heal and recover with rest.

It is fair to say that the preliminary results give the Mavs an immediate gratification edge.

But the Knicks got exactly what they wanted.

My criteria for the success or failure of the trade will come a year from now. My metrics to determine that will be:

Will Porzingis actually remain healthy and productive for a full NBA season. If he gets reinjured, Knicks win no matter how badly it goes for them.

Will Porzingis behave like a responsible adult or continue the toxic behaviors that made him a pariah in NY? If not and even if he plays well, pray for the Mavs.

Now, for NY, DSJ - just like Payton and Ntilikina - has time to get his game together. Thus far, disappointing. If he winds up losing his athleticism to a bad back subtract 20% of the trade value from the Knicks side of the ledger.

An additional 30% or so of the Knicks return is the final return on the cap space. So far Randle has been a disappointment. That still leaves a number of one year rentals who will either stick or whose freed salary cap vacancy will be replaced by someone else. At the point this can be determined, compare and contrast this to THJ and Lee. Chances are the Knicks can claim a clear advantage here.

The rest of the trade, the Knicks win, The Knicks get a couple of first rounders the Mavs will not have.

Let me just point out something that's a pet peeve of mine in discussing draft picks. Having an extra first round pick [twice] is not only a good thing but something that has been a perennial fantasy for Knicks fans for years. They don't have to be top ten picks to be worthwhile. Furthermore, so many Knick armchair GMs INSIST that we *could NEVER EVER EVER* get a first round pick of any kind for the doghouse player of the day they want traded.

And yet, we are blessed with two extra first rounders in our back pocket. Go figure.

Personally, I think the odds of the Kncks having gotten more than fair trade value is high.

postscript: AND I forgot to mention the Mavs signed Porky for the long haul... without knowing what the word long actually means with a family like the Porzingis'.

I am rooting for him. I want to see him redeem himself with his poor start and with how the fans reacted to him the way they did.

You know whats going to suck when the Warriors get the 1st pick. They are so going to tank the rest of the year and get gifted the 1st pick for losing Durant.
