He still is not playing great but you see that he is figuring things out more each game. That tells me that he is able to self-evaluate and he is paying attention to his mistakes. Both good traits for a young player.

At least he seems to be consistently really good at rebounding. He’s also a willing passer. He does give effort on defense. All important things.

The rebounding is good and it looks like that is going to be a consistent part of his game like you said. The kid has potential and he seems to have that "I must be great" attitude you need to improve your game at an NBA level. Once the coach benched him (and the rest of the starters) you could see that RJ was determined to play more effectively. Another good sign.

HE is getting better. His shot really needs to be fixed. Slow and heavy. His D and rebounding have been good so far.

He is having a hard time getting to the bakset on drives.

He should work on posting up.

Yeah, those Jalen Rose comparisons are starting to make sense to me now. A mid to high post game would help him to take better advantage of his strengths.

I wish he'd prioritise his passing- he could easily rack up the assists. Hope Fiz sets that as a goal this season

You are exactly right... If he focuses on perfecting the penetrate and kick out it will open up the game for him and his teammates... A focus on Assists and rebounds would round out his game nicely. His game will improve, but I am dying to see a killer instinct. We may not see it manifest for a couple of seasons, but he has it in him to take over...

LOL...Just got on and was about to comment on the Rose and Barrett comparison.

Barrett is a smooth athlelte, you don't see any explosiveness at this time, and might never see it, but he has some length.

I was happy to see him have some success going to his right, last night.

The post game would help, and he could pass out of it. I think the move we've really going to see more of is the drive and pull back midrange jumper, a shot he has some rhythm with.

One fear- I don't see him as a catch and shoot guy (Am I wrong about this?). I think he needs to dribble the ball before he takes his shot, which limits his usefulness at times. If healthy, Bullock might be a good mentor for improving this skill, Ellington, too, but I wonder if Barrett needs to be a primary ball handler to reach his full potential as a shooter.

Offensively, I can see him playing like Pippen. His build and skill level is very similar to me. His defense needs work to get to sniff Pippens defensive production.

Even if he doesn’t become that top tier scorer, he’s going to be an excellent well rounded point forward. Huge defensive potential too. The pippen comparison is spot on.

Thought of Joe Johnson type of game. Joe was a hell of a shooter. WE'll see if RJ can bring it.
RJ build solid for a 19 year old.

JJ was a good catch and shoot player, if I recall his game.

Barrett has a long way to go to be that kind of player.

He has the solid built part going for him too. He really doesn’t need to be lightning quick. With so many smaller guards in the league, using footwork and muscle (which he’s known for anyway) puts you at a nice advantage if you are a big guard. Again, he HAS to work on the shot but he has the tools and yes, the talent.

He’ll get there.

My goals for him tonight, if he knew me:

Take 6 free throws at least.
10 rebounds.
14 points from layups
50% from the field overall.
Pass out of each double, which I see him doing already.
Continue the effort on defense. You won’t always be good but just give it your best.

No doubt, but his strength served him well going to the rim. He had a good touch on a floater.
Hate the duke connection, but a bit of Corey Maggette. Strong kids got the fundamentals down were very effective.

The biggest concern I see with RJ is forcing sht that just aint there, he went 1 on 4 and 1 on 5 on a few occasions and he did a lot of that at DUKE..

He reminds me a lot of Jalen Rose

I give RJ credit for playing. Guys drafted around him aren’t participating. Zion, Ja, Garland, Culver etc. I guess you can’t be criticized if you don’t try but the Knicks have been the focus of the media in Vegas. Glad RJ had a reasonable game yesterday.

Agree - He seeme to be strong enough already. Just needs to develop the moves and go to shot.

ALso - he looks good bringing the ball up. He has tripdub potential. IF IF IF he can work on his jumper he could be great!

The rose comp makes sense , only Barrett is a significantly better rebounder. Statistically he’s closer to pippen or grant hill I bet, but as far as impact like those guys we will see.

RJ’s passing into the post is exceptional today.... and he’s posting up as well. I believe it was me who first suggested he do that. I’ll take congrats. 😜
