Expectations for Next Season

We all know the story by now: Durant and Kyrie are in Brooklyn. Horford is in Philly. Kemba is in Boston. Kawhi could remain in Toronto or more probably bolt to one of the LA teams. The Atlantic division is tough. The East? Not so much.

We signed Randle, Portis, Bullock, Gibson, Ellington and Payton. Not the bounty we expected, but a clear sign that tanking isn't an option anymore. Is it?

Today, how do you see our season playing out? How many wins do we get?

0-17 wins: Unintentional tank with no progress on youth and Fiz sucks as a coach.
18-29 wins: Slow progress on key young pieces, but we are back at the lottery.
30-37 wins: Marked improvement, future sure is bright but we come up short on playoffs.
38-42 wins: Unexpected playoff run has the city buzzing and fans dreaming of bigger 2021.
43-54 wins: Best case scenario 1 thru 15 as a dream season shocks the world.
55-73 wins: I'm loving this alternate universe with a healthy KD and Kawhi owning NY.
74-82 wins: I just traded Frank for Giannis in 2K! Who needs the real NBA?

I think we will definitely improve from last season. no place to go but up. this will really test the coaching staff by making a winning culture. we can win 25-29 games which is around ten more games than last year. I will be shocked if we win more than 30 or less than 20. Julius will be our leading scorer as he will avg close to what he did last year. I expect barrett to be the second leading scorer on this team around 18ppg. knox and dsj should improve too. Mitchell robinson could chase the lead for blocks.

Im looking forward to it. We are better. Cant wait to see RJ. Mitch and Knox have a year under their belt and have such a high ceiling. DSJ this year hopefully he takes that next step. I like who we brought in. Not "sexy" names but solid mix of veterans and younger players with upside who will help the kids. Portis I wasnt a big fan of since Randle is similar but has talent. I think if things go right it could be a fun season. Im glad we are sticking to our plan, while also adding some interesting pieces, and keeping flexibility as we go forward

We are? We signed or traded for role players like Spoon, Jared Jefferies, Isley, Shandon Anderson to 4-5 year deals? We traded picks for washed up or injured stars?

No. We are the exact opposite of a Layden team. But dont logic or truth stop the parade. March on.

Great poll - I love the ranges.

We're better than last year, but I think barring any dramatic breakthroughs, we're in the 30-37 range.

We were competitive to start last year, and were just a little bit away from wins that were losses. No doubt later in the year, the blow outs piled up.

I'd say the bell curve should be right around 34, with a slight chance for +/-10 based on coming together or injuries.

While the roster doesnt have the stiffs of the layden era, it certainly has a Don Chaney type coach.

There's some decent talent on the roster , but is fiz going to need 50 games and 25 different rotations to figure it out.

I think Summer league will give us a decent idea of where we are with Knox, RJ and Mitch..

whatever dude - I didn't realize Wayne Ellington And Reggie Bullock and Taj Gibson were going to be anything more than role players. Yeah, we're younger and more athletic than a Layden squad. I predict 37 wins or thereabouts. Good enough for 8 or even 7th seed.

What are you even talking about? Laydens teams had bloated contracts,no youth, and no picks. We at least have a bunch of promising youngsters, the veterans we brought in will help and are on short term deals.

na... just replying to silly comments. Just came back from some nice days in the mountains. I am sorry you are so upset! I know the offseason didnt yield the super star players we all hoped for. I mean if you need to tell yourself this is Layden or Isiah or whatever all over again fine. I mean that is your right. If you want to share that on an internet message forum... well that is inviting commentary. There is really nothing similar to what Layden did and what Perry is doing but I do have an aneurysm so things are not always clear for me

This is a valid criticism that Fizdale needs to address early on. This team is built to try your best to get wins even if in the end falls short of a playoff berth. When you sign Randle to round up your starting lineup and sign backups for the bench, you are trying to build a team to win instead of tank.

So yes, this is valid. One of the worst decisions Fiz took last year was the constant shuffling of the starting lineup and bench. It definitely didn't help a guy like Frank, for example. So he DOES need to settle on a starting lineup and rotation in training camp. Barring injuries or unexpected ineffectiveness from a starter, that lineup shouldn't change much.

Could be if the East takes a hit. But last year's #8 got 41 wins to get there and the 7th 42 wins, so maybe it will be tough to get there with 37 or lower.

same. Hope the young guys stay healthy and progress. Would love to see RJ have a big year and some of the guys under rookie deals take nice steps forward

we signed a bunch of role players and I say that's Layden-esque. I bet Layden's roster ends up winning more games. I didn't say this was an Isiah roster. There you go, putting **** in other people's mouths again. Really, signing a bunch of role players is dissimilar to Layden signing a bunch role players? Man, I wish I could stomp my feet and see the world in different shades of rose too

well sorry. Maybe take out the poop I put in your mouth, and try stomping your feet? Also in trying to be helpful I found these:

https://www.amazon.com/MLC-EYEWEAR-Circle-Lennon-Sunglasses/dp/B00OWUKPPO/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=3RO62Q82UBETV&keywords=rose+colored+glasses&qid=1562080773&s=gateway&sprefix=rose+col%2Caps%2C132&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1

Rose colored glasses! Only $10. Not too shabby!

Also I like how you changed your comment. So this is just like Layden's teams. Only totally different. Got it.

Maybe we go from "we're essentially a Scott Layden team right now"
To "Layden-esque"
and finally just to "LAID."

Circle of life!

There is a big difference between Layden and Perry and it aint even close. Perry is signing dudes to 2 year contracts with an out after year 1. Layden was trading for Shandon Anderson who just signed a 6 year 42 million contract (guaranteed) and Howard Eisley who was in the 2nd year of his 7 year 41 million dollar deal!!! He followed that up with a 5 year 27 million dollar deal (guaranteed) to Clarence Weatherspoon!! You cant be serious with your comparison!!!

BTW, Randles potential is better than anyone of Laydens moves....Randle is 24, trending up....Weatherspoon was over 30 when Layden signed him...Layden had zero vision for the future or for building a team.
