One thing about these simulators I question is the accuracy of the %ages. The Knicks seem to get the 5th pick a lot but the other teams with 6%, 9% and 12% gets more chances of moving up than somebody who has 14%. Seems like it is rigged to torture Knick fans.

I don't necessarily know if it's rigged or not. That said, a lot of randomization functions don't function as intended. I would bet on poor design over trying to **** with us

I don't know about design, but it's probably the harsh reality of the math staring us in the face.

Am I right - we and the other three teams have a 14% chance - so combined, that is 42% - meaning, 58% that one of the other teams lands in position 1. That is better than half.

I don't like the new lottery. It was geared to punish teams like Cleveland and the Sixers, and when our franchise finally, after 20+ years of myopic management, decides to rebuild the RIGHT way, we lose out on landing a franchise altering talent.

Sad. I'm resigned to picking 5. Thank god we can't fall further or we likely would.

Hopefully, we're not back here next year - unless it's the reverse problem where we just missed the play offs, and land the top pick with the slimmest chance!

Yeah, tell me about it. I'm staying offline until it's over. Hopefully I'm buzzed enough that I'll be kinda numb to the disappointment.

And- we might cover up the insult with adding 2 FA stars.

But what if KD, Kyrie and all the big names pass on us, and we're left with pick 5 and crumbs? How does that not piss you off as a fan?

Effin Cleveland lands top picks, and we finally start to build and do things right, and we get a sucker punch of the new lottery, and watch a franchise/potential league changing talent go to Atlanta, or Miami or Dallas.

When Cleveland made the Anthony Bennett pick in that draft. I believe they moved up from 4 or 5 to get that pick..literally shortly after LeBron left...that was when I knew it was rigged..

Zion in NY...NBA would be printing money with a state of the art 3D printer...the NBA is always better when the Knicks are relevant...not these NBA2K shooting 70 3pointers....

Not a bad strategy.

This might be a stupid question, but if each team gets a set of ball combinations, and then the machine spits out a set of numbers, after the first combination, what's to stop the machine continually spitting out the set of numbers that belong to a team who has already had their set drawn?

I believe the order is done but results not told to the teams. From what I have read the system effort is as fair as the owners would pitch a fit if it was rigged for one vs another.
When we say “The league wants NY to be relevant” are we saying all 29 other owners are ok with knicks getting Zion?
This is the same league that sent Lou Alcindor to Milwaukee in competition to the ABA Who as a league had concluded the nets would be the best landing spot for him and tried to negotiate a deal but failed.
My point is “The League” is owned by the owners. If the NBA was struggling perhaps it would collectively want ZIon in NYC. Steve Balmer did not pay 2billion so Zion can be in NYC, he wants him. Same for any owner. The owners voted and agreed on the new realigned system.

The best answer I got is that this procees is handled by a third party accountancy firm,
specifically so the NBA can point the finger at someone if **** goes south... Like what happened with PWC and the Oscars

It's been a bit quiet here regarding the draft. I think we've killed every topic. Now it's a matter of luck. In prior lotteries, it didn't really seem to matter much - we never were the very worst until this year and truly "deserving" of the top pick. We rationalized that our teams always went on winning streaks at the end while other teams were in full tank mode - dumb mgmt we said. Well this year we executed like nobody's business. We're primed for a full reset, we have draft picks to spare, cap space, and a few young assets (including the absolute best value in the league with Mitchell Robinson).

I'm nervous and excited. Most draft picks don't transform organizations. If I've got my data correct, LaMarcus Aldridge is the highest Knicks draft pick since Ewing (the Knicks traded a 1st round pick to Chicago for Eddy Curry, which ultimately became the #2 overall pick. Chicago traded that pick to Portland for the #4 pick in that draft, Tyrus Thomas).

It's like buying a lottery ticket. You know the odds are astronomically against you, but for a moment you dream of a better place. So let's take a moment here. If we manage to get the #1 overall pick and get Zion on the team... imagine the garden rocking when he gets his first dunk or makes his first game winning shot. Or, as third fiddle to Durant and Kyrie, helps us to the first playoff appearing in years.

Or when we say WTF when he's the centerpiece of a trade for Anthony Davis. :) (in an AD trade, we'd better get a 1st rounder back in that sort of deal - we're talking the difference between $27m cap hit vs $8m - we'd be doing the Pelicans a huge favor)

Nalodian mind process: Its not fair, but it is what it is. Resigned to 5th. Our Cap space and future of Knox, Mitch, Trier and perhaps Frank all have good upside.
A bit more tilted to the KD/KI strong sentiment.

Anything top three would be a great thing. A bonus. Math is not emotional and its cruel.

The problem is the odds are not with us but somebody with lower odds will advance/win/what ever you call it. That's the issue. Dallas jumps to top 5, I'll be pissed. Cleveland? I'll be pissed. Hawks? Damn!!! Suns? Ah man!!! So maybe that's it? I can live with us at the 5th but not others 1-2-3-4?? Perhaps!!!
