Frank is more of a Starter/Finisher than DSJr .. I wanted Frank to be our 6th man off the bench the first 3 seasons (same as Boston combo-guard Smart). But now after DSJr arrived I would put Frank in the starter lineup as a combo-guard, and have DSJr as the 6th/7th man off the bench to bring energy-scoring to a transition bench unit.
Perry's deadline trade for PG-Mudiay, then the next season deadline trade for PG-DSJr, having a head coach with no type of offense/defense plan system in both previous season says more bout the judgement of Knicks mismanagement than it does bout anything else. For Perry to have a winning Knick season he has to sign or trade for an experience player/coach PG, someone having "Chris Paul" talent.
If Frank has been shopped to other teams, if Frank is shopped in the near future, its due to the fact that Frank cant finish. If Frank cant keep the defense honest, he shouldn't start. This ain't the Triangle.
Noticed his last game that some players where looking him off when he called for the ball, while bringing the ball up. Not calling their own number either. My guess is that some teammates figure that Frank isnt going to challenge the defense, isnt going to do anything that will put the other team on their heels. Frank is going to dribble the ball to the top of the key and give up the rock, no matter what he sees. They can do that.
Not saying its right, but Frank better come up with some offense wherever he ends up, or thats going to be his rep when it comes to that side of the ball.
The back issues are concerning, but considering that DSjr is still on his rookie contract. A year to see how he holds up, develops, is worth the look. Put a PG who passes more than credited, and also a dynamic scorer, next to a better, more veteran roster, we would have a better idea of how good a fit DSJr would be.
Wasnt an ideal situation for an 18 year old rookie starting PG in Dallas, or when a ball dominant player like Doncic arrived. Hasnt been an ideal situation here with the lack of impact vets, but Smith jr has shown he can produce.
Considering he has been putting up decent numbers with a sore back. Would like to see how a fully healthy Smith jr would do on a much improved roster. Something he has never been a part of, as a college player, or pro. Worth the look IMO.
