Thing about Thomas is, he could probably help a good team.

Stuff like that always gets lost in translation.

Some players would be more or less effective depending on the talent around them.

Lance Thomas could help most contenders a few mins a night.

Lance is OK in m book. He is over paid? So what, get in line. Im not going to hate on a guy because of his money.

Some of you want to really tout Trier. That's fine. I don't see things the exact same way but he's young and could develop more.

Lance Thomas' contract means wasted money that could have been used to lock up Trier to a longer term team friendly deal. Same for Vonleh. Maybe Perry felt really good about Vonleh and wanted to do a team friendly 2 year deal. Or a three year one. But wasting money on guys like Thomas changes that dynamic.

Robert Covington was a gem for the 76ers. He was on maybe the best wing bargain basement deal in the league for like 3 years. The 76ers could do that, because Hinkie was very particular with his cap situation. The trade off is always guaranteed money for longer term security. A player will take a longer deal in many cases if he can get some more guaranteed money upfront.

If some of you love Trier , and that's up to you, and he's gone soon instead of staying simply for contract, then look at the Thomas and Noah situation and look no further.

Every dollar counts. Thomas is a 12th man-15th man making 7th man money. You lose the resource management part of the game, you lose before you even step onto the court.

Thomas wasn't signed by the current Knicks front office, so if you're making just a general point about fiscal/cap responsibility, the examples weren't really necessary.

Knicks are over the cap more than Thomas' salary, so you can't actually single out Thomas. Might as well focus on Noah in that case. Thomas doesn't actually change the dynamic

That said.

Trier will be a restricted free agent one way or another (assuming he doesn't sign a team-friendly) deal, so the Knicks will be able to retain him if they choose.

Knicks also made the choice to use the MLE to lock-up Robinson to a team-friendly multiple year deal, and to sign Hezonja over giving Vonleh a larger, multi-year deal.

Its not like they didn't have options.
