The Knicks and second-round pick Mitchell Robinson are finalizing a multi-year agreement that's expected to include team options, per ESPN sources. Robinson, the No. 36 overall pick, impresses with his athleticism in his Summer League debut with 9 points, 8 rebounds and four blocks. The center didn't play college basketball last season after reportedly committing to Western Kentucky. He said he instead decided to take the year to work out and prepare for the NBA. The Knicks have been impressed with his comfort level and aggressive nature thus far in Summer League workouts and the win over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. His contract is expected to be at least three seasons. It's unclear if the Knicks will use the $2.1 million remaining in the mid level exception to sign Robinson.

what is exciting is that after like 4 mins as a Knick he's immediately locked into a multi year deal that leaves us with his bird rights. Pretty clear they saw something they liked a lot

He was awesome. He covers so much ground on defense and is so athletic. Great signing.

I found this https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2018/07/knicks-reach-multi-year-pact-with-mitchell-robinson.html
Robinson signed a four-year deal with two fully guaranteed seasons and a team option for year four, writes Marc Berman of The New York Post. According to Berman, the pact includes about $4.8MM in the first three years, so at least one year is worth more than the minimum. Three years at the minimum would have been worth about $3.9MM. The third year isn’t fully guaranteed

That is the best deal we could hope for. 4 years at controlled salary if he blows up and team options in year 3 and 4 if he does not pan out. Knicks management got everything they could want.

Team didn't have much money left, Robinson had about as little leverage as a rookie prospect could have at this point.

Given his actual talent base, he left quite a bit of potential money on the table ( Not with this specific contract per se, but the fallout of a series of actions over the past few years)

He's a Knick now, so I want only the best for him and for him to pan out, not going to the Combine though is actually sort of troubling on multiple levels.

But as said before, the Knicks have a GM who is trained to be a GM and a head coach who is/was trained and has experience being a head coach. As bizarre and as sad as it is that it took the Knicks to figure out something so simple, at least it's a step in the right direction.

Kid can really cover ground that. No one can doubt that. Even to a relative sense against other professional basketball players, Robinson can really run the floor.

Weird how we short changed him or Hezonja by $600,000- didn't we leave $2.1 mil of the MLE for this?

It's an awesome deal for the Knicks. Even if he doesn't pan out it doesn't hurt the team. I'm little curious how Ron baker got such a large contract. Would Mitchell have been eligible for a deal like that had he taken a 1 year deal? Would he of been a RFA?

The kid has a good athletic foundation to work with. His fundamentals should be decent as he had a year to do nothing but train.
It will be fun to see how he pans out. I don't expect much. Even if the skills are there this kid is going to hit a wall mentally and physically once the grind gets going. I don't know the kid nor have seen his oxygen levels to measure what he is capable of. This is just common sense.
It never got to Amare who was one of the most amazing rookies ever.

He will get pushed around in the league at any position by his own man...But as a help defender hes a great shot blocker.

Admittedly way too early (but can't help myself), but one can easily imagine that every team that picked between 17 and 36 is having second doubts right now, and wondering if they should have picked this kid

Did you guys see the windmill jam at the end of the Hawks game (after time expired but still). That type of athleticism can remind people of a young shawn kemp

My guess: the Knicks prob have ~$700K left, which would be a min type contract.
