Great news! No reason to resign a backup for big money. Time to move on

I can see a scenario where they sign him to a 1 year deal

Was a good FA signing albeit on the low end. Gave us good minutes on a low salary. I wish him the best.

He’ll make money somewhere. I hope he does.

Yup...don't know about the cap issues, but the Cavs could have used a guy like KOQ.

Considering the small amount he was being paid, I'm stunned we didn't have offers for him that were worth making.

I hope not. I think you and I both agree that he isn't a smart player. I am not a fan of his. Never thought he hustled, too much a clown.

There were not any trades out there. You can't expect to get anything for a guy that is going to opt out of his deal at the end of the season unless a team is chasing cap space. He didn't make that much. But we all followed the deadline. There were no KOQ or Lee deals out there.

Actually, I think he's better than Kanter. He's almost as good a rebounder, he has a jump shot - though not from 3 and he can play defense.

All he knows is losing, first with the magic and now with the knicks, he is not a game changer. The only reason he got PT was because of Noah. He'll be headed to another losing team (the handful with actual cap space)

KOQ was playing against backups mostly. He got killed by the likes of Embid, etc. Def not a starting center

Sadly he was are most well rounded center(if you exclude KP). He should get somewhere around 8 to 10. I wouldn't mind resigning him for the former but won't cry if he's gone.

The reasoning is sound. If he gets a multi-year deal, good for him. If not, odds are he can equalized out his current deal he opted out from, but from a contender. Where he will get a chance to win and raise his profile on a larger stage.

The tough thing is the market could completely collapse on him. A lot of teams are not in good cap shape now.

right, I cant believe his agent advised him to do that. He's not athletic, and he doesn't shoot 3's. there's not a huge demand for those types of bigs

He will easily get the 4.5mil he opted out of. He is a metric friendly player. He can rebound, pass, blk. He produces in limited mins off the bench. Teams are always looking for guys guys that can produce like him in limited mins off the bench with high metrics.

he was a big that brought hustle and grit. I thought he was worth more than his numbers. There are guys like that.

$4m he was a bargain. He's not going to change the fortune of our franchise moving forward, whether we resign him or not.

Wonder if knicks reached out to kanter to find out if he’ll opt out. If so we will be aggressively pursuing Memphis’s pick

my point is, there will be something like 19 teams next off season with over 20 mill in cap space.

IMO It would have been smarter to sit tight.

He's not a bum, but with the knicks having just one center on their roster and no KP for a few months, this is when you take the opportunity to shine even brighter

Kind of an interesting scenario there. Kanter opts out...Knicks drop below the salary cap and can take Parson's salary without having to send equal $ back....giving Memphis more of what they want so to speak.
