Fired for what exactly?
It's not illegal for your wife to post things on Twitter, if it was even her. It wasn't a violation of Rex Ryan's contract with the Jets when several videos of his wife doing some crazy foot fetish/hot wifing/spouse swapping stuff happened.
You can fire Colangelo if you just don't think he's doing a good job as GM. However you can't fire him FOR CAUSE and terminate his contract FOR CAUSE when there is actually little to no evidence he violated said contract.
It's EMBARRASSING AND UNPROFESSIONAL, but you can be an NBA GM and bad mouth your predecessor. Trash your own players. Leak some internal information ( This is a little gray to be honest) and uptalk yourself.
A member of the media at The Ringer got an "anonymous tip". Yeah OK, just like Rex Ryan's thing happened out of the blue ( He was pissing off a lot of old guard guys in the NFL, many of whom already hated his father)
Lots of members of the media know a ton of dirty **** about players, owners, GMs, scouts, agents. But they mostly keep it to themselves. Because you go leaking that stuff, you get boxed out. Maybe most NBA GMs despise Colangelo, but he's ONE OF THEM. You show you can't be trusted and then no one talks to you and then you lose your job because part of your job is to have those kind of guys talk to you. Does this mean Colangelo was right here? That's one issue. The other issue is the family of people within the sport are generally seen as immune. You don't go after someone's kid. Someone's wife. It's just bad business all around. The risk of open retaliation is too great.
Colangelo is right about one thing. Someone is clearly after him to get him fired and his contract voided ( Likely his owner) It's his fault for leaving ammo there to use against him.
Don't trust anyone. Don't tell anyone anything. That's what it comes down to in a high profile/pressure job like this.
