He’ll be a good player on an expiring contract. I’m thinking the Lakers will not get the 2 max contract star players they want in 2018, so they’ll wait till 2019. I would look into a sign & trade for Julius Randle who would be a perfect compliment to KP.

Just not sure if we are allowed (as per nba rules) to trade Kantor right away after he picks up option.

At the next trade deadline, the only hope to trade Kanter will be to

A) A contending team or a playoff potential team
B) A team who IS NOT REBUILDING ( He has no value to a rebuilding team)
C) A team looking to dump an EXPIRING BAD CONTRACT or an EXPIRING INJURED PLAYER
D) A team who has all of the above and the contract of their own player is a salary match or very close ( i.e. packed with a trade exception or some non guaranteed contracts)

Even with all that. The most the Knicks could get is

1) A Euro stash not likely to make the NBA
2) A very very very low conditional 2nd round pick
3) A bit of cash from a teams 3.5 million allotment to use in trades, etc

You are going to have to look at likely playoff teams next year and see if any team can do all of that. I honesty doubt it.

The structure of any deal also has to be BETTER than the option of signing a bought out player on the vets minimum or another player taken in trade who is also expiring.

Like all trades, it must pass "The Mirror Test"

I doubt there's a fit, but if you want, you can look.

If Kantor picks up option we should trade him...
