I'd pass. We need a SF who is an excellent defender -- if we sacrifice on that then the guy needs to be next level offense -- pass, shoot, smart everything

he's not either. Will be a distraction. If we get him for short money if Beasley were to leave that would be ok; we just can't be signing him thinking he's The Guy

Good scorer, bad defender. He could be a strong 6th man with his skill set.

He next up.

My thoughts exactly...Williams is much more active in the defensive end of the floor...Is also a better athlete. I'd rather give Williams a long look at the SF as the season winds down...

Yea he definitely has a place on a nba rotation... if he can become a OK defensive player it would be hard to take him off the floor

HE seems like the kind of player that looks ok from afar, but if he were at Knick we’d be hating on him and Front office who signed him!

True, kanter kinda drives me crazy like how Hezonja would if in a Knick uniform. Teams really attack kanter knowing he is a awful defender esp in the pick and roll. At least kanter rebounds!

If we have to give the money to anybody, it should be Beasley. He's already shown that he can carry the team and his defense is under rated. Cherish your own...

Game Thursday night was tale of the many Beas. He was sleepy Beas on Defence a few times and zoned out.
I really undecided on this guy. He is a hell of an iso player and teams need that but the other parts of his game are inconsistent. 7mm a year Lance money? I dunno!

I am unsure about Beasley but agree with your premise. at some point, the Knicks need to commit to the guys that here. we have no chance in hell of accomplishing naything if the roster is constantly turning over

Going to be hard to find someone with Beasley's bang for the buck, so to speak, even if the Knicks give him a big raise.

I get the feeling that Beasley would take a little less to stay in NY, have some stability.

Beas has impressed me with how he can keep an even keel no matter how the game is going. Helps keep the team from falling apart, especially with timely buckets.

Same deal with Kanter, see if he will take a little less to field a future contender, and stay in a town he apparently feels right at home in.

Main issue with Beas is that he will be 30 next yr and the Knicks aren't really gonna be competing next season with KP out. Beasley would probably look to be loyal and would want to stay with the Knicks first and foremost. But there are some contenders that he could sign with for a 6th man instant offense role. For a 2 yr deal. If Beas was 23-24 would be a no-brainer for NY.

Knicks may want to free up those mins for a player that has a shot to be with the Knicks in 5 yrs without an expected decline.

It is true that we won't be competing and possibly should be looking towards favoring the young players. But at the same time we might still want to retain the offensive production Beasley brings to the team, especially if he reverts back to a role off the bench. Let's say we come out of the draft with the following:

- 1st round pick: Wendell Carter Jr, PF/C
- 2nd round pick: Kevin Hervey, SF
- 2nd round pick: Nick Richards, C

At that point we could be running something like:

PG: Mudiay / Ntilikina / Burke
SG: Lee / Baker (assuming he opts in) / Dotson
SF: Hardaway / Thomas / Hervey
PF: Carter / Beasley
C: Kanter / Richards / Noah?

In this scenario Beasley can return to that off the bench role and help the second unit. Obviously it depends on what salary he wants and whether we think it is a decent price to pay, or if the price gets too steep then we might prefer to sign someone like Hezonja who could be with this team long term, but it is a possibility that Beasley returns and plays that 6th man role that he seemed to be well suited to. Even tanking/rebuilding teams can use someone like Beasley. Plus, if we do bring him back and he continues to perform in the role we used him in prior to KP's injury, that can potentially have value as we approach the trade deadline because contenders might want to take him off our hands and add him to their bench.

Carter & Hervey may be more so 5s & 4s in today's NBA due to lack of foot speed. If you draft a Hervey you may want to develop him in Beasley's role as he is a go to guy in UTA with good play making & shooting skills.

With Carter & Hervey you probably go SF with one of the other 2nd rounders. Like Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk out of Kansas.

His scouting report on NBAdraft.net makes him seem great lol. I have to follow up more on him.

Strengths: A body built for basketball with big hands, a tremendous athlete who can finish above the rim, very explosive and quick with hand-eye coordination that is off the charts ... The best way to describe his body is a young Ginobili, similar kind of smoothness and control of his body ... He had at least one steal per game showing excellent ability to anticipate passes and the closing speed to get to the ball for steals ... But what really makes him special is his creativity and skill level ... Mykhaliuk is equally confortable with the ball in his hands or without, which is highly unusual for a 16 year old ... He played for large minutes as a combo guard (at U16) running pick and rolls for Ukraine and he showed that he can shoot from behind screens from 3pts land or attack the rim but also read the defense to make great passes ... Mykhaliuk can read the screen to take advantage of what the defense gives him ... He often attacks players in isolation, taking smaller opponents into the post ... When he doesn’t have the ball, he cuts to try to find a spot where he is open ... When he struggles shooting, he attacks the basket to get fouls. The variety of ways in which he scored was absolutely amazing for a player his age ... Despite being doubled or tripled teamed every game, he always stays composed, making the right decision most of the time ... On defense he has everything to be great, quick feet and good lateral speed and he uses his length to create steals and get out on the break ... Sometimes when he is of the ball he tends to lose his defenders, but nevertheless he relentlessly hits the boards and when he gets the rebound push it himself in Lebronian way ...

Weaknesses: Mostly related to a lack of potential development. He can do everything so well right now that it’s hard to think he will actually add a great deal to his game. So the challenge will be finding ways to improve ... Obviously he can improve his left hand, and the ball handling (although it is amazing right now) needs some improvements to be efficient in the NBA as a point guard ... Mostly for him it will be important to adapt himself to playing within a good team where he is forced to share the spotlight ... Ironically I think his talent could shine even more because he is a very underrated passer who had some amazing assists you can’t teach in a gym, but moving to a good team could still be difficult for him ... While he has to become stronger to be able to guard NBA guards, he will have to be carefully with his body development in order not to lose some of his unique athletic skills ... He is basically an Adetokumbo who should be considered until proven differently, a future top 10 NBA pick ...

Beasley and Kanter are putting in max effort because they want to secure new long term contracts.

Both have, in the past, with previous non Knicks teams, dogged it. They had some kind of security and dogged it.

If you have to make a "bet" on a player, you bet on a guy like Patrick Beverley. Played hard all the time, any time, any situation, never stopped. Would crawl on his fingertips for 10 miles over broken glass to punch an opponent in the face.

IMHO Knicks would be better off doing the same thing again. Wait until Tier 5 of Free Agency, when most of the money is spent, and find a hungry veteran on a one year "Prove It" deal to see if they can get max effort with low commitment.

What makes Beasley a threat to score on anyone, is that he can do it without having to give max effort. Beasley as a role player off the bench, not too many minutes needed because he gets buckets in a hurry. Available if a starter goes down.

Kanter was putting in this effort in OKC, but the difference this season is due in part to all the work Kanter put in on conditioning over last summer. Its paid off. I believe once Kanter figures out where he is supposed to be on the floor defensively at any time will help. He sees two players, has trouble positioning himself to break up a play.

You're right, I dont doubt they wouldnt mind getting paid. Dont believe thats their only consideration though. Guess we will see what carries more weight.

For me, in a nutshell, is very simple: generally, you NEVER want a guy on your team who doesn't give max effort all the time on both ends of the court. As a 1-year stop-gap on a min salary to fill in if a guy goes does down, sure. On a playoff built team, never. Multi year contract: never.

My point is that Beasley doesnt need to play like the wheels are going to come off to be effective. Beasley is playing his game without having to throw a rod to do it.

Never say never!
