As tempting as tanking is I still think we can recover. Our next games:
Mavericks
Bulls(home)
Pelicans(home)
Grizzlies
Lakers

If we can win 3/5 of these games(which we should) and get THJR back and running before we play the Nuggets on the 25th, we should have enough momentum to keep at .500 up to the allstar break.

We ain’t tanking yet homeboys! Bout to beat some of these lesser teams while KP gets his groove back just in time for THJ to swoop in and ball out. Would love to stay near .500 before we get hot and start rolling so we don’t have too big a hole to dig out of when we give Frank the keys and it all comes together.

All you anti-tankers will come crawling back to my thread in a few games time!

how many times have you seen a unicorn, phili and the lakers got russel, and okafor at 2, 3, respectfully...winning is a culture

Winning is a culture huh? I think what you mean to say is winning is a talent. It is very strange how teams always seem to develop a "winning culture" once they begin to accumulate talent.

Golden State was just like the Knicks the laughing stock of the NBA. It gets Steph and the rest and all of a sudden they have a "winning culture".

Cleveland was also once the laughing stock of the the NBA. It gets Lebron James and now they are perennially the best team in the Eastern Conference and the second best team in the NBA.

Boston during the Larry Bird era had a "winning culture" because they had a lot of talent at that time. Once Bird and the rest of the talent began to retire the Celtics stopped having a winning culture. Then they drafted Paul Pierce brought in Garnett and Ray Allen and they started to have a winning culture again. Now they have started accumulating DRAFT PICKS and of course commensurate talent now they have started to have a winning culture again hmmm

Ditto for the Lakers. During the Magic/Kareem and Kobe/Shag eras the Lakers had A LOT of "winning culture". Funny how that winning culture did not help them win once those talented players started to retire. I could go on and on but you get the point.

Even our current Knicks show that talent is the root of developing a winning culture. The Knicks have KP and a stable of young talent and the Knicks have had more "winning culture" this season than they have had in years. Obviously the Knicks' winning culture is not as strong as Golden State or Cleveland and that is because they don't have as much talent as those teams.

This is why the OP has it right that the Knicks need to LOSE so they can get a top pick in the draft and continue to accumulate talent and he should not feel bad for wanting this. Once they get the talent in place you will see how quickly they develop a "winning culture".

All this whining about the Knicks losing on this road trip. Please. If you really want the Knicks to develop a "winning culture" you should REJOICE that they are losing and hope they CONTINUE to lose so they can get as high a draft pick as possible so they can continue to bring in the talent necessary to develop a real winning culture.

Getting talent without culture is like drag addict getting lottery win.
All will go into drugs with eventual overdose and death.
This what NY Knicks were for 20 years.
Granted to win in NBA team needs a lot of talent.
But getting it without a clue does not help.

Precisely. Once you have the talent in place, you'd be surprised how much easier it is to develop a winning culture. Conversely without talent no amount of "culture" is going to win you a championship.

So, to update, our record is:

19. Knicks 19-24

20. Jazz 17-25

21. Hornets 16-25
22. Bulls 16-27
23. Nets 16-27
24. Suns 16-28

25. Lakers 15-27
26. Mavs 15-29

27. Griz 13-28
28. Kings 13-29
29. Magic 12-31
30. Hawks 11-31

I've put the teams I think are on the rise in bold.

Just 2 wins ahead of the jazz. The next 4 teams in the tank rankings (Hornets, Bulls, Nets, Suns) all have a record of 16 wins (around 16-25, give or take a loss). Of those Bulls seem to be on an upward swing and Nets have no incentive to tank. Hornets might be about to blow it all up, and Suns tried shameless tanking for a long stretch last season.

Then we have Lakers and mavs, both seem determined to win and have been on an upward swing (Lakers don't have their pick and are trying to look on the up to attract free agents), mavs refused to tank last season.

Finally the last group I doubt we can catch- Griz will likely blow things up (though you never know, when Conley returns they may win a few), Kings are going nowhere, and neither are the Magic or Hawks.

So in summary I think we can fall to 5th worst team and certainly no higher than 4th. Without hard tanking we'll find ourself in the Knicks-reserved 8th spot

Do the Celtics have the Grizzlies pick this year. I think they might and there is probably some protection but it is amazing what Ainge was able to stockpile.

I think Celtics have the Lakers pick- crazy they have had so many high picks from other teams. then in 2019 they have the Clippers 1st rounder, the Grizzlies (both are protected ) and then the 76ers or Kings. Crazy.

This is a good place to check who owns who's picks:

Pelicans have a load of talent.... but where is the winning?
If team has no culture the talent will be wasted.
Getting talent need a lot of luck.
And organization must be ready to use the luck when it comes.

So, as of today (26th January) the tank standings are:

19. Pistons 22-24
20. Knicks 21-28
21. Jazz 20-28
22. Hornets 19-27
23. Lakers 18-29
24. Bulls 18-30
25. Nets 18-30

26. Griz 17-30
27. Suns 17-31

28. Kings 15-33
29. Hawks 14-33
30. Magic 14-33

Annoyingly, despite all the losing, we've only gained one spot since last time. We need to really root for the Hornets to win some more games before they blow it all up. Same goes for the Griz. Lakers and Bulls look like they might win a fair few going forward, Nets won't be looking to tank due to not having their pick. Suns, Kings, Hawks and Magic are all going to be tanking shamelessly, it'll be hard to catch them.

At this point I think the absolute best we can do is finish 26th (so that would be 5th worst record), but only if the Griz start winning more before/if they blow it up. As of now though we're still very much in the danger zone- out of the playoffs but only with the 11th worst record. This has to change quick!

Please don't win tonights game vs the Suns!

It’s probably too late to Tank like you want. The Knicks are going to win some games. The big question is how much of the roster will be moved and what assets can Perry acquire.

Hornets are 6-4 their last 10 games and some quality in there. with dwights contract it makes no sense to blow it up just yet.
I think the rumor was Jordan will listen but not.

Hawks, Magic and Kings are in a class of their own. 27th thru 19th is just 5 win difference. Its a race to the bottom!!

At some point in the season it makes sense as far as resting players, giving younger players a chance. But the call to lose games seems to come earlier with each passing season.

There are many bad teams this year and were 3-6 games above many of them--not ideal.

This is the last year of that due to the draft rule changes next season

I don’t mind tanking but I would rather develop the young in the process something Jeff isn’t doing. He is legitimately trying to win games. The only player he is developing is Ntlikina. This team is not tanking they are simply giving effort and losing.

Outside of Willy, who is JG not "developing". KP plays big minutes. KOQ plays. Doug plays. Kanter starts. Even Baker gets minutes. All the 25 and under guys get minutes. THjr is 25 and is outperforming.

I like him as a 6th man at either guard spot. If we can move up to get him we should.
