I would probably wait a yr

Could the Cleveland Cavaliers catch "The Unicorn"?

In light of Kyrie Irving's trade request, the Cavaliers are determined to land a young star in exchange for their starting point guard, and New York Knicks power forward Kristaps Porzingis has emerged as a primary target, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Cavs would reportedly have to take on Joakim Noah's albatross contract ($55 million over the next three years) in return, and it's unclear if they're willing to do so, making the scenario a "nonstarter" for New York.

In addition to Porzingis, the team is fixated on Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, Phoenix Suns swingman Josh Jackson, and Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray, according to Wojnarowski.

When news of Irving's trade request emerged last month, it was reported the Knicks had "strong interest" in acquiring the 25-year-old All-Star, who grew up in New Jersey and included the Knicks on his list of preferred trade destinations.

It's believed New York is open to sending disgruntled veteran Carmelo Anthony and future first-round picks to Cleveland for Irving, while Porzingis is unavailable after a short stint on the trading block around the draft.

Wojnarowski indicated that other NBA teams question how firm the Knicks are on that stance, as there "continues to be distance" between the club and the 7-foot-3 Latvian, who skipped the team exit meeting because he was reportedly frustrated by its ineptitude and losing last season.

Cleveland reportedly hopes New York will reconsider, as the 2016 champs have no use for LeBron James' 33-year-old Banana Boat buddy in Anthony at this time. Given James' unwillingness to commit to his hometown club long term, the Cavs would rather protect themselves in the long run in case he bolts again.

If they have to start over without both James and Irving, they could build around Porzingis. The versatile 22-year-old averaged 18.1 points on 45 percent shooting from the field and 35.7 percent from deep, to go along with 7.2 rebounds, two blocks, and 1.5 assists as a sophomore in 2016-17. He has two years remaining on his rookie deal.

Looks like the media is determined to get KP off the Knicks and do what they always do add a useless player who won't make the Knicks better.

I would consider this deal if the Cavs include an unprotected pick and an unprotected pick swap to us too.

GMs are not making moves with possible suicidal consequences.
Nobody cares that Irving "badly wants to go home".
If he wants it so badly he can come in 2 years and play WITH KP.
Sorry knicks1248 - you will need to tolerate rebuild related losing for another 2 years.

Nope already made that mistake trading the farm for melo when we could have waited till the off season and signed him outright . If knicks are smart we tell kyrie to just come in two years . By then with draft picks possible doncic KP more mature this team will be ready to fight for a chip.

KP
Willy
Doncic,
Thjr
Frank

That might be a powerhouse starting 5 in the east in two years. Add a talent like kyrie and that team is going places .

Noah is sunk cost. You don't trade KP to get rid of Noah no matter who you are getting unless it is enough that you would do the deal without even considering whether Noah was included. I like the team we have, including Melo. I would only be trading Melo in a deal that gave us an asset and no longer term contracts.

It is probably BS, just like the KNICKS and ROCKETS re engaged in trade talks. Are the knicks and rocKets sitting in a board room or HAVING A conference call everyday, or his it more like.."YOU KNOW WHAT I WANT, CALL ME WHEN YOU GOT IT" how many weeks does it take to call 16 potential lottery teams that want to help the rockets get better?

This has nothing to with rebuild and every bit to do with noahs (worse in the league) contract

Kyrie would be on a different timeline than the draft picks we would get with another reset. Rather take chances with Frank and KP, than building a team just around Irving. I get the feeling that Irving as the last man standing, would be more like the Melo years.

No way.. Knicks need to develop some continuity with the players they already have. It all starts with KP. We'll deal with Noah and hopefully he can eventually contribute 20 solid mins a game off the bench.. over-paid yes but we have Hernangomez on a very cheap contract. When it comes time to pay Willy we could then consider using the stretch provision on Noah.

As I expressed before I'd offer 2 #1's (one of ours (top 5 protected) & one from the team we trade Melo to) C.Lee, and Frank Ntilikina for Kyrie Irving. That's the very most we should offer.. another team is not likely to give up as much if Kyrie is not willing to stay with them after his contract is up (i.e. Phoenix)
