This was what I was worried about. Does THJ play defense now? Do the metrics fans see any improvement defensively? Unless Dolan plans on making Mills the permanent GM, why the hell would you sign anyone to that big a contract (4 years) right before handing the keys over to someone else?

Its not Noah bad. I really hope we see a lot more game from THJ this time around, and more cojones.
One big contract for one decent season.

I give up.. We have Lee on a good contract. Dotson has looked like a stud. We drafted Frank who can play some 2guard and we resigned Baker. But the Knicks give $18 million a year to freaking Tim Hardaway Jr. I am done. I am going to take a break from the team, and start following the Kings.

This team is like a bad horror film, "let's split up".

UN F'KN BELIEVABLE. This is why atheism has become so prevalent. No God would allow this kind of stuff to keep happening.

THJ is only 25 though and made a big leap last season. He fits with our long term plans so I don't mind the trade at all. Also, if you average it out, we're paying KP, Willy, Frank, Dotson and Baker (5 core players) near the minimum so why not pay a little more for a 25 yr old who has shown vast improvement? The salaries will average out.

15M the starting point for a starting 2 guard? Similar to the contract the Hawks gave to Kent Bazemore. Someone list some other contracts signed for shooting guards (starters)

Crabbe signed a bad contact too... but Tim Hardaway is way better that him. At least Hardaway averaged more than 10 pts per game for his career.

Hardaway may even be a solid player. But we are paying full value for 2 months of work and pure potential.

Crabbe made 18.5 last year... He's a shooting guard i didn't care what anyone says. He's also a bum sand the worst contract in the league at his position

Everybody who was waiting for the Knicks to do something. I wish we were still waiting. I was watching NBATV and I saw this on the scroll and had to rewind it twice because I couldn't believe it. $71 million for THJ? No way ATL matches it.

The idiots that wanted to fire Phil should be jumping up and and down. We are back to "37 wins now with Melo". WHOOOOOO - talk about making a splash! HEE HAAW!!

Can we please get Marbury back from China?

Don't mind the THJ signing. People are overreacting a bit. Knicks are still getting younger but still adding players with some maturity. THJ is ready to roll and hitting the start of his prime. MEH! Not that bad if the Melo Trade and CLee trades are happening.

The only two positives I see in this are that we basically would have traded Rose for Hardaway in the end.
Second THj is young and would make a nice young backcourt pairing with Ntilikina.
Essentially we traded Rose and Lopez for Hardaway and Dotson, as the most important asset going out in the Rose trade was Grant who was traded for Hardaway.

Too much money. But if you want to get a restricted free agent you have to overpay.

I don't love this move, but I don't hate it either. I like that we went for a young free agent and overpaid him, vs going for a big name player who would be a declining asset. There is no guarantee Tim gets better or is a consistent 15 points a night player in these 4 years but he is young with his athletic prime ahead of him.

All that said, I think Atlanta will match,

Yeah, this has to be a set up for a bigger deal being worked on. But what happens if ATL matches (though I doubt it)?

Firing Phil doesn't mean you hire dumb @ss. Why couldn't the Knicks just go for the scraps after the Nets search and hire that guy from the Rockets?

I--too--was shocked by the amount of the contract and still may think it's too much.

But allow me to play Devil's Advocate for a second.

After the Korver trade, THJ averaged 18.2 ppg on 48% shooting and 38% from the field. That's elite SG numbers across the board.

He also led the team in the playoffs and outplayed Bazemore, who has a similar contract.

He's only 25, so if he plays at the level he did following the Korver trade, the years won't matter and the contract will be reasonable.

Also, this is not the same THJ we remember. His defense has vastly improved, including his overall game.

Lastly, Lee's contract has to be moved after this which will absorb 12 of the 18 per of THJ.

If Melo is moved, we need another scorer. That's what he is: he has his father's killer instinct.

That's a level headed approach.

I mentioned in a Tim Hardaway Jr thread a while back that the kids might feel he has unfinished business here... well I asked for it. Quiet as kept the kids story still isn't finished.
