Sorry, I misspoke in the title - it should be the NBA suspended Noah, not the Knicks. Martin/Andrew if you want to update, my apologies.

10 games at the end of this season and 10 games at the start of next season. Wow.

The NBA is suspending New York Knicks center Joakim Noah 20 games for violating its anti-drug program, league sources told The Vertical.

The NBA plans to announce the suspension on Saturday, league sources said.

Noah tested positive for an over-the-counter supplement that is prohibited under the outgoing Collective Bargaining Agreement, league sources said.

Noah, 32, is expected to serve 10 games of the suspension to finish out the 2016-17 regular season and 10 games to start the 2017-18 season, league sources said.

The National Basketball Players Association’s investigation concluded that Noah hadn’t “knowingly or willingly” violated the policy and cooperated fully with the league’s probe, league sources said.

Noah underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Feb. 27, effectively ending his season. He had recently started running and conditioning, league sources said.

After signing a four-year, $72 million free-agent contract to leave the Chicago Bulls for New York, Noah averaged only five points and 8.7 rebounds in 46 games this season.

wow. No way this offers cap relief or an out of the contract that I am aware of. This signing just keeps looking worse.

As I said previously, Noah is a waste.

We would've been stuck with him next season anyway.
It's nice of the Knicks to give him a retirement plan.

Freak'n disgraceful

How does Phil judge talent? Can a pro Phil fan please explain his moves to me, why he should still have his job etc.?

How would Phil have known he'd take an over the counter supplement? I can understand the annoyance at his signing, but I'm not sure how this development is Phil's fault.

Apparently the supplement is't banned under the new CBA, but that only comes into effect next season. So we have this ridiculous situation where he'll be serving the remaining 10 game suspension for a substance that isn't actually banned by that point.

If Noah has been taking illegal supplements all season, he really needs to get his money back!

Phil appears to have an OK eye for talent. He got Willy, Kuz, and KP. He just has no idea how much the talent is worth. When it's a rookie contract and it's given that the salary will be low, it works out OK. When he actually has to figure out how much a player is worth in terms of salary in a signing or assets in a trade, he's as bad as it gets.

I can forgive Phil for taking a flyer on Noah, though it was clear that he was on the decline beforehand. This is not the benefit of hindsight. We all saw it. What I don't understand is why he was willing again, in true Knicks style, to sign him to 4 years. Again, bidding against themselves. Who was competing for his services? Chicago admitted they wanted to move on from him. I just don't get it. If Noah was insistent on a long contract, Phil needed to walk away. The best he should have done was 2 years with 3rd year option. And that should be the rule for any health wise questionable player, reclamation project, or flyer. How many times do the Knicks need to do this too themselves? They JUST got out of Amare's contract!

This is just adding salt to an open wound of a season.

All this negativity started when Dolan became owner. I know he did not make Noah take PEDs, etc., etc. but I can't see the Knicks turning into a respectable franchise until a new owner is in place.

A bit of an over exaggeration. The deals he gave to Affalo, KOQ, D.Williams, C.Lee, Jennings weren't bad ones at all. . Turner, Bazemore, Deng got 4 years 70 mil. Didn't love the Lopez signing, but apparently was a very movable contract which other teams were interested in. I don't know what he was thinking with the length of the Noah contract though given his injury history(not a talent issue). The deal he worked out with Willie is very very good though. Willie will far exceed his pay while Noah will severely under perform. KOQ exceeds his pay from the center position as well. We have had 20+mil in cap space over the last 2 years and will have 20+mil in cap space going into the 3rd year. The Tyson chandler trade is the only deal I can think of at the moment that I feel he got swindled.

I can understand the pressure to perform that could make Noah do such a thing. I'm not that upset about it. He's doing it to be able to live up to his contract! He cares about being able to perform and probably had been playing thru pain as well. Just a bad decision but he was trying to get a boost so he could play better. Getting something from GNC or Vitamin Shoppe isn't exactly Horse Steroids.

I'm very surprised the NBA caught someone juicing. As much as its probably used in the NBA you rarely hear about it.
