Uh... NO! I like Cory and Alexis, but there's a reason that you spend good money for a proven starting Big Man. RoLo isn't a great player but he's the kind of player that we needed. He has his flaws but he's also been a guy that has provided the back bone to a playoff team. RoLo is coming into his prime and best years as a player. Neither Cory nor Alexis have proven that they can carry a starting role so far in their careers. I believe in Cory but I have doubts about Alexis logging heavy minutes for a full season. RoLo has at least done it twice in the last 3 seasons and only a broken hand stopped him from doing it a 3rd season.

2 things jump out at me, from here:

http://theadvocate.com/sports/pelicans/12803066-128/sources-pelicans-alexis-ajinca-agree

He allowed opponents to shoot 52 percent from the field against him, according to NBA.com.

What was more concerning for previous coach Monty Williams was Ajincia’s tendency to get into foul trouble. He averaged 5.7 fouls per 36 minutes which was the worst rate among active players in the NBA.

Also, was Alexis really a viable shot to land in FA? He gave the Pelican's a thumbs up on contract either the first or second day players and teams could talk, leads me to believe he was super comfortable with his team and the city.

You really are something else. Just to put things in perspective these are the top Defensive Bigs from 2013-14. Notice the FG% opponents shot against RoLo at the rim!!! When you make statements like Hill and Lopez are pretty similar you aren't being accurate in just what makes RoLo an impact player vs. Hill despite the similar looking per game stats. RoLo isn't a sexy name but what he does for your team is in fact measurable and legit.

Comparing Hill to Lopez is not very kind for Lopez. Hill does not bring the same intensity and the little things that help a team win games.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing our new Big Men defend and hit the boards. We have some solid size n length and physicality. They should make this team much better defensively. Been a while since we had this much of a presence at PF and Center.

Knick fans... WE HAVE A TEAM!!! Man when you see this team in games against an East leader you can see that this team can matchup very well against teams in the East. This is what I was talking about. They have a long way to go in terms of putting it all together but they're WAY ahead of last year in terms of understanding what they want to do.

I love the size we have on this team. As long as our guards and wings are aggressive defensively we will cause teams a lot of trouble trying to score against our size. Overall this is a pretty big team. There's also a nice mix of athletic ability on the roster too. The bench is full of young, spry and energetic guys. We shouldn't see a huge drop off from the starters to the bench, which is a big deal.

This should allow us to be able to properly develop the young guys on the team. They aren't playing in a disaster like last year. They will be playing meaningful basketball this year.

After 7 games all of which we have been missing our starting SG and dealing with slumping shooters, I stand by the point of this thread. This team is competitive with the other teams in the East. You look at this team battling every night and sure they aren't pretty but they are giving effort. IMO this team should continue to get better as they develop more chemistry and guys get out of slumps or finally make more of an adjustment to this level of play. This team is still far from clicking on all cylinders. The fact that we are playing competitively with so many rookies and still developing players is remarkable.
