But if he is waived there is no deal to absorb. Look at Josh Smith last year, he signed for the minimum(?) in Houston and they didn't have (much) space.
Josh Smith cleared waivers (because no team was taking on that contract)- once he cleared waivers, he was free to sign with whoever
Oh yeah, thanks for clearing that up. I jumped over that part. Basically a guy is on waivers and if you want him then you have to pay his salary.
If no one picks him up then you can sign him for what you want, which is often the minimum since rarely does a player get paid on waivers. (I think)
