One of the greats and a key member of the first Knicks teams I watched. RIP Mase.
I thought JR's post about him was great and just another reason I lament giving away JR and Iman for nothing. ¿ △ ?

JR's post is great.
I'll be surprised if it happens but Dolan/MSG/Knicks really should do Mase and his family right. I'm not sure what would be best (other than whatever his family wants) but Mase deserves more than video clips on the big monitor at halftime. A scholarship or two to Tennessee State? Free fades to every citizen of NYC? Both of his kids get to start on the Knicks for the rest of the season? (Hmmmm, no disrespect to JR but that's more evidence that. . . some day JR is going to rock a college English class.) |

Peter Vecsey on the WFAN just told a story that Mason, on his death bed a couple of days ago, indicated to his family that he wanted to hear Pat Riley's voice once more.
They managed to get Riley, and even though Mason was unable to converse with him, he was able to listen to Riley talk to him for a time, and according to Vecsey, Mason's family said it cheered him up as much as possible given the circumstances. Edit- this was over the phone, not in person. EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

That's awesome - sad the way things went down with Riley and the Knicks and the end of that squads run but glad to hear he was able to reconnect and give Mase some peace before he passed. Nice to hear the Riley story. Sad when some of these athletes have heart problems.
Great guy. Tough as nails. The one thing about him that drove me nuts was when he got the ball passed to him in the post on the low block, with no man behind him, open, and he would pass the ball out again. But his effort was never in question. The heart of a champion. |

Its pricey, but if anyone is interested, Mitchell&Ness sells and NBA authentic 1991-92 Mason jersey.
