let me guess... it praises what a valuable advanced stat weapon he is because he shoots the three at such a high percentage, like above 44%?

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Great article thanks for posting it. The rehab and training stuff was incredible. This blew me away:
Big-wave surfers build lung capacity by holding a large rock, sinking to the bottom of the ocean, and running short distances on the ocean floor. Korver and four friends decided to go back to the Channel Islands, find an 85-pound rock, and run a collective 5K holding the thing underwater.4 Each participant would dive down, find the rock, run with it as long as he could, and drop it for the next guy to find. Those waiting their turn wore weight belts and tread in water between five and 10 feet deep.

It took five hours. “We were honestly worried about blacking out,” Korver says. They were also worried about sharks.5

“He wants to turn over every stone, and try every possible thing that might make him better — as a player and a person,” Elliott says.

No, it's much more than that. It's written by Zach Lowe and right now he has no peer when it comes to writing about basketball, IMO.

yea thats wild. What people dont realize is there isnt much of a talent gap separating these guys, which is why the guys with the crazy work ethics stick around and turn a niche into skill that impacts the game.

Always liked Korver. Reggie is exactly the guy he reminds you of

The gurus at Stats LLC, the company behind the SportVU cameras, have developed two previously unreleased metrics designed to measure the amount of attention an offensive player gets from defenders when he doesn’t have the ball.

The first, dubbed “gravity score,” measures how often defenders are really guarding a particular player away from the ball. Korver had the fourth-highest score, behind only Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, and Paul George. The second — “distraction score” — is a related attempt to measure how often a player’s defender strays away from him to patrol the on-ball action. Korver had the lowest such score in the league.1

Interesting.

One of my favorite players through out the years. Always wished the knicks picked him up

I love the "gravity score" and "distraction" concept. Novak provided that for us but he was so bad on d that he wasnt worth it

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

No, this would be stating the obvious.
What I loved was the notion of gravity / distraction score. That really amazed me, and I'd dare to say this is the future of our sport.

And if we wanted to loop back to Melo, I would be curious to know how he fares. Although some of you know I'm not crazy about his game, the guy is double team magnet and I'm pretty sure his gravity score would be pretty high.

Exactly, trading Novak killed our spacing. Most ot fans argued he couldn't score but I always thought that the threat to score can be as valuable as scoring in itself.

yes the players are bigger and the court is summarily smaller so stretching the floor is becoming a skill or a consequence of a skill which is a very high 3pt%. i think even 40% from 3 is not necessarily going to warrant close off-the-ball guarding and ball denial. but once you get up around 44% from 3 then you have a real problem on your hands.

I tell you what, when he was out, alanta lost all of one game (13 out of 14) , thats when we were pulling closer for that 8th spot, as soon as he got back, they pulled there offense together, and we could never catch them.

that's what i am looking at when it comes to specialists, yes.

if they also have a good usg:ast ratio that is a big plus.

IT'S THE SYSTEM, AND THE COACHING, THATS THE DIFFERENCE.

Certain players require certain systems to be effective, he's willing to be taught after 10 yrs in the league.

I feel like we got melo thinking the same way, he him self said he was willing to learn from phil.

I think a lot of ppl are going to be suprise at how effective the triangle will be for the current knick roster
