Nets made up a lot of ground last year!
OKC has yet to make it to the ledger. I wonder how Durant feels about his owner?
Knicks far away lead the pack. Nyets I think are looking at about 60mil next season.
Interesting how some teams piled it on early and others stayed clear of it.

no more damning evidence than this that the knick owner has spent money like a drunk gambler. really incredible stuff.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Dolan obviously is willing to spend to build a winner. Hopefully he continues to let Phil take care of basketball decisions.

I never really cared about what tax the owner payed until the CBA was arranged so that it now hampers a team's ability to do trades, MLE, and other penalties... Now it matters more than ever and am happy the Knicks will finally be under the cap next year to avoid that horrible repeat offender penalty... The Nets are screwed....

He's willing to spend a lot of money to build immediate excitement (and revenue). Spending to build a winner would take much more discipline.

That is why I referenced Phil.

Too bad we didn't have a guy in place that could paint the picture of a long term success instead of Isiah who binged players that created a damn mess!

At least the Nets are over .500 and make the playoffs. We had seasons under 30 wins!!!

That was then, this is now. IM not worried about Nets as Im worried about team able to roster a proper team and utilize the talents of Phil.

Rules are the same for everyone now. At some point Durant has to feel the squeeze that being somewhere else whose owner will spend might yield a better result.
Im sure he is reminded that to do it under free agency will yield the best result except the departing team.

Money well spent

Knicks paid more in 1 year $45M than all but 6 other teams have paid in total over the years. Crazy way to operate a business while still putting out such crap teams.

It depends on the moves. Obviously New York has done an awful job, but there's a difference between paying tax on a team with LeBron and Stars or to keep James Harden in Oklahoma City than there is to keep Shandon Anderson and Stephon Marbury around.

The guy who outbid everyone by $30 to 40 mil to keep Melo and threw in a no-trade clause just for the heck of it? You really think that's what I meant by "discipline"?!

it would be if he checked the advanced stats first and made sure Melo never gets hurt. Which he did, so therefore yes.

Yeah. Much better to be smug and cynical in July then optimistic when Phil Jackson was just put in charge of the Knicks.

"smug and cynical"

i thought this was a thread about how much money dolan felt free to throw at players, 240 million dollars worth of overspending alone, to put azzes in seats. and his signature acquisition, carmelo anthony-- he who said he wanted to test free agency and who said it was not about the money? the worst contract in basketball, a ridiculous contract, a necessary evil, a big gamble, a result of "kind of" doing "exactly" what was asked of him.

if you want to start using descriptors like "smug" and "cynical" why not look at dolan and carmelo anthony before anybody else?

you are a hoot
