exactly, I like solarte but he really came crashing back down to earth.. if healthy Headley is a better player...

Not the biggest of Baseball fans, but statically, this is more than just an anomaly. Reminds me somewhat of Brady Anderson,
Ken Caminiti, Luis Gonzalez, who all had their big home run years after 30, and played in the 90's and early 2000's.

Only difference is that Headley was 28 when he had his big year, which can be considered his "prime." However, the years before and after his big season,
especially the year after, where he had a similar # of plate appearances, are revealing.

Had 600+ at bats 4 times, and the 2012 numbers are too far beyond his average season to make me think there was nothing wrong.

Does the guy have back, rib, or shoulder problems? (JUST read that he has been taking injections for a back issue recently). These injuries can slow down a player.
Has he had back issues since he started playing?

AT ages 25-26, he was a pretty pedestrian player for a 3rd basemen who got to the plate over 600 times.

The Padres All Star SS was caught doing PEDs while Headley was in SD (2013 season), and there were rumors about Headley during and after his big season in 2012:

kind of reminds me of Dan Uggla.. the braves signed him and I knew that dude was juicing.. LOL.. he has been a complete bust for the braves who cut him recently..

The Lakers have a clean slate pretty soon. The Yankees owe almost a billion dollars to useless players.

I understood not paying Cano. He's a postseason pansy and your not getting $250mm from the Yanks with his post season record. But getting McCann and Elsbury and Beltran told me everything I needed to know. Time for another hobby.

The current Yanks remind me of Howard Eisley, Shandon Anderson, Clarence Weatherspoon and Travis Knight. Just overpaid guys who are utterly uninteresting in every way.

This is going to come down to one of the tightest (is that a word)al east races in a very long time. Already after one game the trade impact is evident, dude hits a walk off..what do you have to say now?

Also happened to the Yankees in the mid 1960's.

Picking up Boozer at the expense of losing Marshall who, whatever his limitations as a player, seemed to deserve a spot on the Lakers.
No way Lakers can compete in the West, but they have a win now attitude.

Not as bad for the Yankees, since their division is not great, but they are heading toward the same path as the Lakers.

Solarte's hitting .320 with a .900 OPS in SD. It's a good thing we gave up on him so quickly!

If the spending and buying is actually pointed to getting us to the playoffs this season, how many 0 fer 40's do you think we can afford to spend on a 27-year old rook? I thought you weren't a proponent of small sample sizes?

I'm not a proponent of small samples. I'd evaluate Solarte based on his whole season. Slumps and hot streaks are inevitable and irrelevant. I pointed out the current hot streak just to indicate how dumb it was to trade him based on one slump.

After the way he flamed out here, I'm glad we got anything for Solarte. Would we be anywhere near the hunt if we continued to spend time shipping Solarte back and forth to the minors? It's not like he's a Soriano or something.


Which reminds me, is Cervelli a better hitter than Soriano, too?

Well then that was a mistake. He was hitting the ball fine during the slump. His strikeout rate wasn't high. He just had a random stretch of bad luck where a low percentage of his balls hit in play resulted in hits.

I don't think professional baseball at this level is all about random stretches of bad luck. So if he was popping out and grounding out into double plays, that was okay?

You are really stretching to find reasons to have Cashman fired, aren't you?
What do you think of his McCarthy pickup now, or is that attributed to someone else? 4-0 looks fairly competent.
Or maybe it's just a random 4 game string of bad luck for opposing hitters...?
