Ellington really is Steve Kerr. He's a guy you put on the floor to hit a 3. Then get him off the floor as fast as possible. Maybe he proves me otherwise.

Ellington was a trade throw-in, why do people keep bringing him up? He's our 4th string sg!

Because he is on our team?

That came out wrong, I meant why are people talking about him as the future of this team or like he's some prospect. He's a 5 year vet with a very hohum track record in the nba, don't really think he's very relevant to our success and I doubt he gets more than 5-8 minutes a night unless there's an injury.

I highly doubt Ellington is on the roster on opening day.
He is likely being kept as filler for a future trade...

Totally get what you're saying. The reason I bring him up is because we are going to have a competition for the last couple of roster spots. He should get a chance to compete for a spot. I don't think he is a lock to stay on the team even though his contract is guaranteed. I am also watching to see if any of our Summer league's get a camp invite. The only one that has me interested to see more right now is the forward we just picked up, Wear. This off season has been very good with the quality youth we have and a coach/GM who is trying to develop younger talent rather then going the geriatric vet minimum route. I enjoy talking about young prospects more then I do potential FA signings, so Ellington is definitely in the discussion as far as I am concerned.

Who's interested because I am?

If he clears waivers then Shane should be traded for whatever his value is

I like Kendall's size, patience, heady play at point and Phil likes bigger point guards who can shoot

Of course everyone looks good on Youtube when you post only their highlights. IMO he has a better Triangle profile

We have too many guards already. I don't think he is any better than what we have now. We need more bigs.

He developed nicely under MDA last year. I watched their games and he has a strange offensive game, but he does in fact have skills that should work well in the Triangle. I can't say he was much of a defender, from what I can remember but I don't think he's terrible.

Marshall can't really shoot or defend so I would pass. He had nice 3pt numbers but other than that everything else was poor. He doesn't knock down Fts so how can you count on him late in games?

Bad timing in terms of all the guards with now have.

I would think LA might resign him, but the guy was not even making $1M ($915,000). Are they actually looking to sign him for less, or are they looking to sign him to a contract that allows them to keep him longer and not have to deal with him being a restricted FA next year?

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

He's probably a better defender than Calderon and a better 3pt shooter than Larkin.

He averaged almost 9ast-game on a crappy Laker roster in under 30min-game, not sure what's the issue if he could be had

Larkin before we acquired him shot a poor % field goal, poor % three point, poor % free throw.

How much scoring do we need from a backup point guard in the Triangle? Who's going to take over for Calderon as he ages?

in terms of floor time Larkin is still essentially a rookie. Let him earn or lose the job. If he struggles early Prigs is an excellent backup

Felton avg. 9 assists for MDA. Not a good barometer.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

For a near first yr player passing to the likes of Sacre and Shawne Willams, it's great for a backup role.

Larkin as a college prospect came in with good shooting numbers. He has shown improvement. His Rookie NBA stats may not be the best way to look at him since he was injured in training camp and it was his rookie season.

Shane Larkin
Year GP GS Min Avg FG FGA Pct 3FG 3A 3Pct FT FTA Pct Off Def Tot Avg PF FO A TO B S Pts Avg
11-12 32 19 820 25.6 73 203 .360 32 99 .323 60 70 .857 18 62 80 2.5 52 1 81 60 2 50 238 7.4
12-13 36 35 1311 36.4 183 382 .479 69 170 .406 87 112 .777 17 121 138 3.8 59 0 164 82 4 71 522 14.5

I'm not really worried about his shooting. I think he'll settle into better habits as he moves along in his career and adjusts to the NBA.

Compare Kendall Marshall to Darius Morris. Who do you guys prefer of those two?

I was thinking the same thing, pg's stats are on steroids when MDA's is coaching

Kendall would fit the Triangle better because of his 3pt range. He has an awful shooting form, but he makes the shot when open.

I've seen Laker fans say Kendall Marshall is worse than Nash on defense.

I like both of those guys. Prior to the mavs trade I thought Phil would bring Morris in for at least a camp invite. I am not sold on Larkin but he may just need more court time. I think Morris and Mashall are starters in the right situation. I believe Kendall was a lottery pick.
