It depends on the person and their circumstances. It is possible though. Most people in my field (medicine) don't start their career until their late 20's anyway.

Maybe some more details would help. It's hard to imagine a task you couldn't succeed at at 29 that you could at 22. So it's hard for me to understand what you're worried about.

I don't know your level of education or nature of business you intend to enter. If your the OBM and you did some "time out" once upon a time I don't know how that really plays into things.

I'd have to say that there are many turn around stories of people making big changes in their lives at various ages. I am educated with an advanced degree but in my line of work it really did not click for me until I was 30 and took a few years to really get going.

I run a clean business practice and don't take short cuts. I can't stomach deception when perpetrated on me so I live the same creed and earn an honest living. Have done well for myself, invested well, stay out of debt and have weathered many storms with ease.

Being happy is valuable commodity and the pursuit of "more and more" can often jepordize. SOme might say I could have taken more risk but it works both ways. I live very well, and have some nice things to show for it. We on the internet so Nalod don't brag as its not credible unless I divulge.

I noticed you have read lots of motivational-feel good books and thats a good thing to do. Just be patient, have a good plan, and don't think new found success happens quickly.

Share your story with othes and you'll be amazed how many people will reach out and help you!!!

So, what is this new venture you wish to enter?

I am 33, and I do well - not where I want to be yet but there is a long road ahead. I plan on switching careers a few more times before all is said and done.

I see no reason that should ever hold anyone back.

Sure. I knew someone who had 20 years in the Army and while finishing up her last few years got a degree in Computer Science and became a Software Engineer. So, she started working in her new profession in her early 40s. I don't see any problem in it. I myself have thought of starting a new career, because I sometimes find myself bored.

I would think about getting into construction IWG. Lots of workers dropped out of the labor pool during the housing market collapse, and employers are having a hard time finding qualified workers with up to date training. Think about going back to school to learn carpentry, or maybe learn to be an electrician. The pay is good and it beats a job in the service industry IMO.

Trade schools, especially at community colleges are a lot cheaper than big name colleges, especially an advanced degree. You won't be spending the rest of your life paying off a student loan. Just be sure to do your research, talk to graduates if you can, see what they say online about the school.

I'll fill in more of my story when I'm home,

But I am a mechanical engineer, bs, and I want to start a new career within the engineering field,

I am planning a switch to mep design, that is hvac, electrical and plumbing design for buildings,

Right now I work as a production engineer by title but really I am an excel monkey for a privately owned manufacturer and With my talents I need to be in consulting,

The thing is that I have only a basic understanding of cad and mep, and I don't have my fe exam, so we are pretty much talking about a new career,

And nalod the time out has not come up in any Interviews since, no one seems to care as long as you have the technical ability

Well, I'm home, and there doesn't seem to be much more info to provide.

I think I answered my own questions in the last post.

Study, train, take continuing education courses, pass the FE, gain certifications and work like a filthy animal.

Nothing to it, still plenty young.
