Dumb signing by Toronto.... so they have DeRozan, their best young perimeter player, at the two guard spot + then they spend the #8 pick on another two guard in Terrence Ross + now they grossly overpay Landry Fields to have a third SG? What the hell?
And, if they intend to play him at SF, they'll have two slashers and no shooters.

Bryan Colangelo has had an awful tenure in Toronto.

This squad of strangers needs to get over their egos, start getting acquainted and share the ball. The goal is layups - not three pointers. It ain't that deep. - misterearl

Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't want Nash here. First, I want Lin to be our PG. Second I don't see how he helps Melo, Stat yes and Chandler yes. If a player better than Fields is available at the full MLE then we take that road but I did like Fields, think his shot will come around. As others have said, we can probably get a player better than Fields at the full MLE.

I'm down with that foreign PG as a backup.

i'm worried this overpaying means toronto thinks

A) it'll ****block nash to NY (which it will) and

B) if deron goes to Brooklyn, suddenly Dallas overpays Nash and then Toronto offers Nash money to Lin, now having Lin's best friend, largest asian population in league and landry's couch. (more worried about option B)

I agree about Fields. He cashed in on his situation. He is not worth the money and I don't think Nash is worth 36 mil. I thought the poison pill to Fields meant Toronto wasn't going after Lin. Good chance Kidd takes 3 mil over 1.9 in NJ in my opinion.

I concur, Iman needs to stay in NY. Should target by trade, Beasley or Felton with some of our players, and try to still have a full MLE to use to target another player.

Nets dont have the $3mil LLE. They already used the $5mil mle. You dont get both. All they have is vet mins and $3mil trade exception and kidd is not coming vja trade. We can still get Kidd. We can offer more playing time and more money than the Nets

Yeah, I meant he takes 3 mil to be a Knick before 1.9 to be a net.

Since the Nets are using the non-taxpayer mid-level, their payroll cannot exceed $74M under new rules.

The Nets will use the non-taxpayer mid-level to sign Bosnian Mirza Teletovic: 3 years, $15.675M. Means no mid-level for Jason Kidd.

Knicks first move in FA and it's a loss. Knicks waiting on Lin to get the offer so they can match. It would have been nice to get Fields back but close to $7 million got to walk away.

not drafting DJO is going to hurt the Knicks.
With Fields getting 20m for 3 years, you all realize JR is not coming back for 2.8m, and we have NO SG to play to start the season.

If I'm the Knicks I match Fields offer even though he would be overpaid. At this point the only bad thing that comes of it is Dolan pays the luxury tax. The inflated salary doesn't prevent the Knicks from signing anyone (3M exception), which is what they would have either way. You need to retain your assets.

Wow. That's crazy. Well, no way we can match that, even if we wanted to. The luxury tax penalties are too steep. We lose all flexibility. Looks like we are in the market for a SG. I would've preferred Fields, but looks like JR Smith will probably be brought back. I ultimately think we're coming out of this offseason with Lin, Novak and JR Smith. Meaning, we have the same team as last year, except no Baron, Shump is injured and and we lost Fields. Guess who is our backup SG? Yep, Toney Douglas.

If teams keep mismanaging, I think no CBA is going to fix this idiocity.

No rebounds, no ring.

but is he really still an asset if he's incredibly overpaid?

If he's in the rotation, he's an asset.

Not this year, but after year 2, the penalties get much worse, as I recall. We really can't stay hovered over $74 million every year. The new CBA isn't a hard cap, but it's about as close as you can get to a hard cap without actually having one. You can't afford to pay that kind of money unless it's for a starter with the current CBA.

No rebounds, no ring.
