I think the problem is with the title of the thread and the word "euphoria" When none of the "melo lovers/dantoni haters/woodson lovers" are making unrealistic proclamations like beating the Heat as the thread topic suggests

Yeah, it's not the euphoria that's over the top. It's the hypersensitivity to anything remotely critical of Melo.

So we beat chicago and Melo carries the team yet we are still reaching for ways to be critical of Melo? Thats what "the other contingent" doesn't understand

That's the norm for any player who is a superstar. You ever read about how Lebron or Kobe is treated, including after wins? They should stop calling Melo a superstar if they don't want him treated like one.

On second thought, that's true too. Not everyone is euphoric, but I've seen very little if any criticism of Melo (maybe aside from MarburyAnd1) today. The Melo lovers are simply criticizing us for not being euphoric enough!

Whoever said Knicks fans this year have been very touchy and sensitive is 100% correct and I blame Dantoni for it along with everything else for selling fans on the brilliance of SSOL

This Is A Direct Quote

It's Mike Woodson's fault.

Woody is not calling any plays to get anyone other than Melo involved in any offense.

Woody is making me less and less euphoric every game we win.

What is he, 11-3?

Or is Mike Woodson 12-3?

I lost track. Sheesh.

No one is "euphoric" enough over the victory to expect the team to beat Miami and win a championship. That is why the use of the word euphoric is extreme as others have suggested

I will steal MSG3's quotes from the game thread. Noah and Rose must not be feeling very euphoric with these:

"They can compete," Bulls center Joakim Noah said after the game. "We can't sit here and take that away from them. They're a tougher team than they were before. There's no doubt about that. They play hard every possession. I mean every possession. They're tough. They keep coming. They're showing a lot of heart. And they've got someone to give the ball to when it counts in Melo. I've got to give him credit.

"Actually, they can brag a little bit," said Rose, shockingly. "[The Knicks] know where to get the ball to now. Guys aren't taking many silly shots. Melo's at least touching the ball when they come down the court now. They're running the offense through him and he's making plays. He's hitting tough shots, great shots, making the game easy, and he's getting to the line.

"I've got to take my hat off to Coach Woodson. He's doing a great job of making sure everyone's playing hard and playing team basketball. You've got to give them credit. They're playing hard throughout the whole game. They're a great defensive team now. Especially when they get you playing out of control. But it still comes down to Melo."

This seems a little too picky. Replace the word euphoric with excited if you want; the point still is valid IMO.

Being There

I wonder how many Knicks fans who attended yesterdays dramatic win were not euphoric.

It's one thing to experience a thing firsthand.

Quite another to watch it from behind a keyboard.

Or to be on an afternoon flight where the anxiety of the imagined score is almost unbearable.

So fans are not allowed to be "excited" about their team without the "excited police" reaching for ways to rain on the parade. Why are we here, why are we knicks fans then? Maybe some people miss the 20-30win teams. Maybe we should break up the team and re-hire Isiah as GM and re-hire Dantoni then we can all be happy

What is fun to watch is people that hate Melo so much that they would not even enjoy a win over a good team.

loweyecue wrote:Yeah it was a thrill to watch those shots go down and to beat the bulls. I agree that Melo is playing well and the team defense has been really good under Woodson. No issues with that. But I am not sure we can beat the Bulls in a 7 game series.

The Bulls cut down a 21 point deficit to take the lead. They can do that seven out of seven games. It's not like we can suddenly take our defense up by another three or four notches. But for us to win it took two three point shots by Melo to end regulation and then OT. This isn't about Melo but that is not repeatable 7 out 7 games.

Woodson's excessive reliance on Melo and STAT when he was in, is rendering the rest of our offense useless. It's not like Melo is being selfish, but Woody is not calling any plays to get anyone other than Melo involved in any offense. Melo can't beat defenses like Bulls/ Heat every game in a playoff series, and what we saw late Q3 and early Q4 yesterday will bite us in the butt. None of our other scoters have any flow or rhythm of any kind.

MDA was all ball movement and sharing Woody has been all stagnation and isolation. We need to find a balance between the two otherwise we won't get out of te first round. I am just not seeing any signs of Woody doing that. And that's concerning to me.

Since you changed your sig to 'we are toast' and Woodson took over as coach the team has won 75% of their games. They have overcome the incredibly deep hole that they were in that was leading them towards giving Houston a lottery pick and another year where the Knicks did not make the playoffs. Were you concerned that the previous coach couldn't win? Do you want the offense/defense back that led the Knicks to 121-167? Have you by any chance noticed a difference in the players attitudes, intensity or fight on the court? I think when you watch a broadcast you should listen more to JVG then Mike Breen. The Knicks have the 7th seed if the season ended right now. 14 games ago the Knicks were out of the playoffs and the Rockets were getting a lottery pick from the McGrady trade. Enjoy the winning and the success the team has with a conventional coach who doesn't move from job to to job because of a rigid commitment to a style that hasn't won and needs a specific roster to win.

Put it this way, then: The insistence that everyone must feel nothing but excitement and not bring up anything remotely critical (or even neutral!) is over the top.
This euphoria is a little over the top
